Is the gear ratio ok for throwing bubble 10's? Is it too slow for topwaters and jerk baits? I am stuck between the okuma induron 400a and the abu 66000 C4. The C4 has an 6.? gear ratio, what are the pros and cons of them both? They are priced about the same. Need some advice.

If you retrieve double 10's with a 6600 C4, you'll have a VERY hard time cranking the reel. Think of this as riding a 10 speed bike uphill in 10th gear. Very hard to crank the pedals. This is what you'll experience retrieving a hard pulling bait with a C4 that has a high gear ratio. The second thing is the reel will last all of 18 seconds before the gears blow b/c of the strain put on them from a very hard pulling bait coupled with a high speed reel that wasn't made for retrieving a hard pulling bait.

OK, I exaggerated on the 18 seconds. It may be 18 MINUTES, but you get the picture.

Between the two, the Induron wins without a doubt. The C4 with the high gear ratio isn't cut out for hard pulling baits. The Induron has something like a 5.1:1 ratio, and with the power handle makes pulling double 10's easy. Too slow for topwaters? Is there such a thing? Seriously, I usually fish topwaters pretty slow.

I've used the Indurons with their power handles for a whole year for double 10s, big rubber baits, jerkbaits, topwater, and everything else, and it has done a great job with all of it. I view the high speed reels as a specialty type reel for things like picking up slack with jerkbaits, but I've done just fine with the multi purpose type.

Anyone know whay upgrades they made for next years models?

I used one all year and was very satisfied with it.
Tried a Luna and the Okuma cast much easier. I was quite surprised considering their cost. Maybe the Diawa would be more durable in the long run. Going to get another reel but don'know which one yet.

First Okuma has some of the best customer service there is. Of course they aren't going to just send out a new reel Guest, but I bet if you purchased a new one and sent the old back they would have gotten it taken care of. They have a rep that frequents this site and is very open and honest when it comes to their products. Because of this I bought one of their Indurons and really like it so far.

I have both the 6600C4 and the Induron and I really like both reels, but they are for two totally different applications. I use the 6600C4 for jerks, gliders, burning smaller bucktails and topwaters like Weagles and prop baits. The high gear ratio is great for this application and it makes working these types of baits very easy. I use the Induron for Double 10s, Dawgs, ripping big cranks, etc. So far it has worked great for me.

If you need a reel for Double 10s get the Induron and PM California Muskie. He will send you a Power Handle Free of charge (that customer service thing again

I have three indurons and they have done great. California muskie sent me two
free power handles which sell close to $20.00 each which does not qualify for
poor customer service in my book. Just search for all the threads on indurons on
this forum and I think you will find our guest in a minority.

Well... I saw "guests" comments before they were pulled so I will go ahead and reply to them. I wish I had your name so I could address you personally but you opted not to put your name up there which is ok. I do recall talking with you a while ago.

It is Okuma's policy to not send out new products before receiving the defective product back. If a product has a problem... we will work as hard as we can to repair that product in a timely manner if it is possible (most of the time within 48 hours of receiving it). If it is not possible to repair the product, we will then at our discretion replace the bad product with one of equal or better value. There was a case this year where we couldn't repair some products. We have since determined a fix and are waiting for parts. Those that experienced a problem and have contacted me... I still have those emails and PM's. Once we have the part to fix the reels, I will be contacting them to have their reels sent in for the part and a full service free of charge. The vast majority of our products performed the way they should and those that didn't have been taken care of to the best of our ability. I am sorry that we couldn't replace your product sight unseen. I don't think that there are many manufacturers of anything that will do what you asked for.

If you still have the reel and it needs to be fixed, I will gladly repair it for you at no charge. All you need to do is send me a PM to let me know the problem and I will give you the address to send it to.

I feel that with your comments, you won't be purchasing Okuma products in the future based on your views of our customer service. There are a lot of good products out there that may fit you needs as well as a better customer service that Okuma can offer. if there are any questions that you have for me, feel free to send me a PM or email at [email protected] so we can see what we can do to help you through the problem.

Regards,

Mark Rogers

Mark,
I hope you do know who this guest was, I missed the comments. I apologize personally for whomever that was, and hope they have the good sense to PM you if they are registered and actually have an Okuma product, because if that happens, the resulting customer service will be unmatched....as usual.

Be aware, sometimes anonymous, rude, and disingenuous 'snipers' take shots at products they don't own or flat misrepresent their experience with one they DO own as a result of brand loyalty elsewhere, a personal vendetta against someone who owns that product, or other reasons unexplained. That's why we do not allow that sort of thing... when posted by a 'guest', we cannot confirm accuracy from that source without considerable effort tracking the IP and if necessary, going to the ISP for an ID (which are extreme measures) and failure to be able to confirm an anonymous 'complaint' posted here is unacceptable from OutdoorsFIRST's point of view for too many reasons to post here.

Just so everyone knows, Okuma has asked we NOT remove any complaints that are even remotely possibly valid, even if the content of the post is beyond our permissions. The reasoning is they need to KNOW what any difficulties may be or they cannot address them quickly, and to the customer's satisfaction. For the most part we are able to meet that request, but we cannot sacrifice the structure that keeps MuskeFIRST a pleasant place to visit and talk muskies to someone clearly and intentionally over the line....even in this case. I personally apologize for that as well, and assure everyone reading this there isn't better customer service out there.....anywhere.

The products are pretty nice, too!

From my experience, you cannot beat the product support that Mark provides with Okuma.......it is the best.

I now have three Indurons and fished two of them alot this spring, summer, and fall. No problems whatsoever and the power handle makes it very nice for big baits, heavy weight.

I have only been musky fishing for one year now. I currently have 2 rods but need another reel as I only have one. The reel I bought at the beginning of this year is a Abu C4 6601. It is also the first baitcasting reel I have owned. I like the reel a lot and have not had any issues besides backlashing while learning to use it.

My question : Is the Okuma Induron without a doubt better than the C4? I don't know if I want to buy another C4 or the Induron, if the Induron is that much nicer/better I have no problem paying $20 more, it's just that I'm pretty comfortable using the C4. With that being said, if you had to pick one: C4 or Induron and why?

Induron. MUCH more versatile than the C4. The high ratio on the C4 really limits what you can use it for without causing damage to it. The gear ration on the Induron is good for pretty much everything

I have noticed DCG are a real bitch to bring in with my C4. That must be due to high ratio. Induron sounds like it will be much nicer for things like this.

your C4 is in for a short life if you keep throwing big blades with it. The gears are NOT made to handle that resistance

The induron will handle big blades with no problem. If you throw a power handle on them, it's even better, but you can burn them in without a power handle with little fatigue as well.

No stadard sized reels in 6+ gear ratio are really the best suited for heavy pulling baits. If you like the C4 but want a more versital reel go with a C3 or other reel with a 4.5-5.3 gear ratio.

I did not see Guests post but it sounds like he expected Okuma to send him a reel before he sent back his broken reel. I can't believe that people would actually think a compnay would, or should, do this. If the company did this does he realize the abuse that would happen?

Steve, make it so that only members can post, not that difficult to sign up, and that would keep some of the riff-raff off the site. Did not see the post, but it sounds a little fishy to me.

tomDP;
That won't help, it's easy to get a Gmail (or the like account) under an alias, and register under that same alias. And, we certainly don't want to limit visitors from posting valuable ideas, questions, and comments, so we'll just continue to moderate the board as best as is possible.

Induron, hands down. It's a way, way better reel. The unrivaled customer service is bonus.
