I have a custom color STR I bought from Thorne Bros at the shows this winter. I finally got a chance to get it wet recently and was very dissapointed. In order to get it to make a plopping noise like my Top Raiders I practically had to burn it in. Is that the way it is dessigned to be used or is mine in need of a little tweaking?

The one my buddy used this weekend did the same thing. He either had to burn it, or keep his rod tip really high (no chance for a hook set). It may be the nature of the beast.

Yeah, it does seem to need a lot of speed to work. One thing I do like is it stays upright instead of going on its side unlike the regular topraider I have.

unfortunately- i have to agree here... as much as i love bucher lures... i found myself throwing my original TR all last week instead of the superTR because the original one just has a better sound- and can be retrieved much slower... the super didn't sound too good even when retrieved fast... its doesn't have the same sound or vibration...

will get to use it more next month- maybe i will like it better then...

One thing I think you need to remember is that the STR is not a do everything topwater, it is instead a niche bait. It will have its own times to shine but will not warrant as much time on the line as his more versatile little brother. I will use it much as I have used the Twin Teasers in the past, but I guarantee I will spend a lot less time tuning the lure to make it run right.
