Posts: 44 | Hello. If I can introduce myself ā I like making big baits for musky that are a little bit left of center. I make everything by hand; hand saw, hand sand, hand paint etc. I am nowhere near as good as the majority of you here, but I thought Iād share ā if only to inspire ā as many of your baits have me. All the baits are internally balanced (and some rattled) with tin shot. Under the paint, I have sealed and waterproofed the basswood. Though they are not complete internal wire in design, I use deep eye screws with sealing glue all around. I enjoy using flat top coats, as I find, when wet, they really, well...shine! I hope you enjoy. If someone knows how to post the pictures directly here, please do. Thanks for looking, you guys are incredible artists! http://img233.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00093lt1.jpg http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00065lq0.jpg http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00089om5.jpg http://img266.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00368iy5.jpg Edited by big_baits 11/26/2007 10:04 AM Attachments ---------------- DSC00065.jpg (51KB - 117 downloads) DSC00089.jpg (66KB - 124 downloads) DSC00093.jpg (62KB - 124 downloads) DSC00368.jpg (98KB - 118 downloads)

| I wouldn't be sorry at all and definitely don't be embarrassed, I'll try to dig up some pictures of my previous baits. Also no reason to remove the post. I think they are pretty interesting and definitely have some great potential! | |||

Posts: 27 | Its all about having fun. And getting through the musky fever in the winter months. I do really like the bait with the wider body. Definitly not a bad start for using all hand tools. All you can do is ask the guys here questions and you will be suprised on how much you will learn. Good Luck.

Posts: 157 Location: Collegeville Pa | Why should you be embarrased?? At least you are trying to make make baits on your own, being creative, and hopefully, building a lure that you made that was eaten by a musky. That is more than 90% of the rest of this site is doing(including me!!). Keep up the good work. Greg

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | Definately no need to be shy about your baits.....those look like masterpieces compared t anything I could ever try to make. I tried to do some carving/whittling of my own type of bait and sliced my finger open, that ended any idea of doing that! Keep at it and keep posting, guys will offer tips along the way! Good luck!

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Embarrased? These look 10x better than my first attempts. I made a LOT of firewood my first 18 months trying to make my own baits. I still do! LOL

Posts: 20263 Location: oswego, il | I would like to see them in the water. As you said, that is where they shine. That is all that matters. I bought these silicone skirts on ebay cheap. As skirts go, they look ratty and certainly nothing anyone would buy making a bucktail with. In the water, they have the best action of any skirt I have seen. Enjoy your craft and share your passion. This is what this section is for, welcome aboard.

Posts: 44 | Wow, thanks all for the kind words. I really do love this site, and its an inspiration for me. I can't believe some of the talented artists who post here. Again thanks for the encouragement, it's appreciated!! I love working with wood, and I love big game baits! I find myself seeing a picture of a fish, or any other small animal for that matter, and thinking, "that would make a great shape for a bait!"

Posts: 156 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | If a musky eats a suick, which basically is a stick in the water, you should tag some fish for sure with those baits. I like the second one from top, cool eye on rear! ps don't bash the suick phrase I use em a ton, favorite bait.

Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | Good Lord, Never be embarrassed to post anything here that you've created with your own two hands! Like others have said, our own first attempts were far from being the baits we make today. Nice to see you sharing these with us and I'm sure you can learn lots from the other members here. Keep it up and have FUN at it... I still do!
