| With a 40hp-50hp 4 Stroke Merc, would one need a trolling plate or will a 4 stroke 50hp idle slow enough to troll at slower speeds?
Thanks |

Location: SE, WI. | You should not have to do any modifications to your trolling other than kick up the speed. I trolled with 90 hspower engines, 4 strokes for years. Now a 115 Etech.
Most trollers troll Toooooo slow!!!! Unless you are after walleyes. |

| I have a 50hp 4 stroke merc on my 16ft tracker targa and it will do 2.5 on calm water at a idle, with my trolling plate down it will do 1.1 mph. |

Location: Chaska MN. | Most guys I know that troll for skies run around 4 mph give or take 1/2 mph so your 4 stoke should be good for that and if its walleyes you could backtroll.
or tie a drift sock off the front and backtroll even slower. |
