Hey guys,
new to the site. I noticed alot of you guys make your own bucktails and was wondering what beads you use. I noticed in some of the supply catalogs that you can buy hollow or solid beads. What do you prefer???

you'll have a hard time getting some of the solid beads to fit over the wire shaft. i use plactic beads for spacing and hollow beads between the body and blades, with the exception of one solid bead under the clevises. you'll usually want to keep your beads between the body and blades as small as possible so it doesn't hinder your blade.

Be careful of the silver plated plastic, the plating comes off quickly and you have just a dull black bead. I get my metal beads from jannsnetcaft or lurecraft. I use chartr. and colored beads from dunhams sports, or sometimes you can find them at your local craft store. I love being a man and walking to the isle with the beads and having to work in that I make baits and its not for crafts when there are women around.

you can get solid beads with big holes. Don't use plastic, they break, hollow metal crushes. If you build a bait that catches your personal best, you know it works, so you want it to work again.

Thanks for the replys. I wasn't sure if some used the solid beads for weight in the front of the lure? Do the big double 10's have solid or hollow beads?
