| just a suggestion, but don't lay the fish down on the carpet. Invest the $30 and get a bump board that will last for many many years.
No reason to lay it on the carpet and remove the protective slime. |

| Those lapreys make a great sound when they come off a salmon and get sucked down the grinder at the fish cleaning station! |

| I would think that if it was attached to the gill itself, you would be better off to just cut it off with a knife and let the dead end fall off when it's ready. Trying to pull it off could tear the gill out, or cause profuse bleeding.......I would think.
Fish looks fat and healthy, and seems to have lamprey scars on its side too.
Cool picture though.

Location: The desert | Beav, you are correct, if it was attached to the gill I'd just leave it be or slit its belly. However if it isnt attached to the gill I'd take it off. Personally I think sea lampreys are one of the coolest species around. |

| All the ones I have caught on salmon let go real quick after taking the fish out of the water. In fact they often come off while in the net. But I do know that when they are attached, they are solid! We had one in the cooler and threw it on the stainless steel cleaning table and it attached to the table. Try as we might we could not pull that thing off the table. We finally had to slip a knife under it's sucker to get it off so we could lower it into the grinder. |

Location: (South of the 218) | On the gills, I say leave the business end of the lamprey but be sure that the rest of its body isn't having a very good day. On LOTW we catch Northerns with those stinkin' things all the time. A pair of needle-nose right behind the head and off they come (head separate from body)

Location: NW PA/Allegheny River | I catch quite a few muskies with the Ohio strain on them here on the Allegheny River........many fish 45 inches and longer will have them during the cold water period. I have seen as many as 7 on the larger fish at a time. As soon as the fish is pulled from the water, they fall off. |

Location: (South of the 218) | On LOTW we get all kinds of Northerns with Native Silver Lampreys on them. I don't know if I've even seen a Invasive Sea Lamprey except at the Aquarium in Duluth. Anyway, the parasitic adult lampreys (6-12") do quite a number on the fish we're catching. Every once in a while you'll get them on the walleyes....usually when they've moved into the shallow flats, up in the weeds in 5-8 FOW.
Ever had one latch onto your foot when you're wading in Loon Poop? It's freaky... I grew up on the Warroad River where the foul beast are spawning.

| Sorry I threw it in the boat.I couldn,t get it off in the net.I had to pull like a mad man to get it off..Most of the time they do fall off in the net like most of the Kings Iget with them on.. |
