Need your help, As most of you know my Son is serving in Afghanistan, What I would like to do is send him a Watch for Christmas that Shows Local Time/Date and the Time/Date at Home. Because of the conditions he is in this watch would need to be quite sturdy and rugged.

Do any of you have any recommendations of such watches.

Thanks in advance

Hi John,

did a quick search online and found this one. Not sure how strong it is, but I believe it has the capabilities you are looking for...

Spendy, but has the date and 3 possible time zones...

If your looking for a less expensive watch, take a look at Timex Ironman Line
http://www.timex.com/gp/node/n/267161011
You can usually find these watches all over including stores like Walmart & Target.
They retail anywhere from $30 -$80
Most of the watches in this line can be programmed for two time zones.
You can always see the local time, but if you hit the "start/split" button you can see the time in the other time zone that you programmed in. If you hold the start/spilt button for like ten secs the display on the watch will flip to your other time zone.

This watch has 48 city world time and is solar powered! That might help since service for watches is probably scarce over there, and it is only 130.

I say go for the G-SHOCK. I wore one when I was in the military. Never took it off from the high mountains in Germany to Iraq/Saudi, to swimming the ocean in Panama, and jumping out of airplanes. I've owned 2 of these, they are very tough watches. Got my first one in 1990 and still wear the second one. Never need to change the battery. And you don't need to push a button to get the light on, simply turn your wrist towards you and the light comes on for about 2 seconds. Can't go wrong with it. Thank him for his service too.
