Posts: 742 Location: Grand Rapids MN | Looking for some help or any information on how you approach non-cisco based lakes in the fall. In particular I'm going to try and fish a lake with little main lake structure, relatively shallow, and usually has a lot of weed growth. I'm used to fishing rock reefs/island/points where cisco's are stacking up just off the structure. I'm not to familiar with how deep fish in these style lakes tend to hold or what to look for. Any information would be appreciated. I'll try to attach the DNR info on the lake and lake map to help out. Thanks.. interesting case, i see alot of points with deep water close by, i'd probably focus on the deep weedline turns, inside and outside, and the edges of any flats you can find. possibly with the mild weather lately the perch and other forage would move up shallow? might be worth checking

Posts: 462 Location: Madison Wi. Chain | I would look for steep breaking shoreline with good weeds shallow. Especially on the south east end as the prevailing winds in the fall are NW. I would fish the weed edge or the first break. Don't be afraid to look very shallow. Good Luck BG

If very nice and warm weather then wouldn't hurt to check out shallow water bay that close to deep water. Manmade lakes where I fish that I like steep shoreline with fallen trees or standling trees on point and off of the bays.

Posts: 742 Location: Grand Rapids MN | Thanks for the pointers guys... keep'em coming. I've fished the lake early and mid-season but never fall time. I've moved fish in that SE corner which has some really deep weeds. I hold my boat in 22-24' casting in during mid-summer months which seemed to work well. I don't have a ton of experience on this lake and it's one of those that everything looks good with lots of good weeds. I'm just hoping to narrow it down a little. Thanks again...

Posts: 4266 | It looks like a trollers dream. Take those steep break, and zig-zag them until you mark fish on your locator. Fish the structure nearest the deepest water in the lake. Look over a DNR pamphlet of species in the lake. Perch aren't fall spawners, but they begin staging for winter on deep-water flats where they will spend the winter, and the muskies will be close. Crappies are fine dining, and they suspend off of weed areas and mucnh on small minnows and plankton. Follow the food chain. Got any feeder streams? Suckers migrate to current areas in the fall as long as the water is flowing.

Posts: 30 | I have a bit different approach. Looks like a few underwater humps. Find those and work them with a mag dawg or a DDD aggressively twitched. Float a sucker over the top also. Especially if the wind is blowing over them, I would bet they hold fish.
