Single strand wire in .029 dia and up. If the bait doesn't roll over leave off the swivel and use a split ring on the nose of the bait and a loop on the leader (two loops if no swivel is needed).

Last winter with the help of [a post] on this site, I began making my own jerk/glide leaders. Now I always have my bucktail rod rigged with my own floro leaders and my jerkbait rod rigged with my own wire leaders. This season most of my fish have actually come my jerk/glide/twitch/dawg (wire leader) rig. Here is the link on how to build them--it'll give you something to do to pass the winter months:
