Location: Contrarian Island | Stiff rods to me are one reason some are losing fish. I looked at an 8'6" x heavy premier and Legend at Rollies this weekend to see how stiff they were and if they had much tip for really loading big baits up and to my surprise they don't have much tip. Way too stiff to the tip imo and this will cost you fish. Then I met a friend of a friend sat nite that happens to use the 8'6" xheavy premier and he told me he has lost more fish than he has caught with this rod...with no stretch lines and a rod that stiff I think it will cost you more fish than rods with a bit more flex towards the tip....

Location: Rhinelander. | I agree Musky HNR. I think in days of the stiffer fishing rods many guys were using mono and it streched. With the low and no strech lines I feel you need a rod that gives a little bit more. It makes up for angler mistakes in the fight and cushions those hard head shakes.

Don, my idea of missed fish and lost fish.
Missed: Fish hit, I set, and come up with either nothing or one thump and then gone.
Lost: Hooks in and fought for at least several seconds.
I don’t consider swings and misses lost or missed fish.
Don, is there anything you feel you are doing that allows you to have such good hook-up rates?
