My Ranger 117 2001 has a 2 stroke Mercury motor. I replaced the gas line primer bulb, because the bulb wouldn't stay hard. The bulb flattens out as you throttle. When the motor is not running the bulb is inflated and hard. Motor is now having difficulty starting and running. Any knowledge about this type of problem?

I had a similar issue w/ my 115 Johnson...ended up being a fuel pump. Try this...if the engine is running and starts getting rough, squeeze the bulb. I figured it was the fuel pump because it would start running rough and squeezing the bulb would fix it for a few seconds.

hiya,

first thing that comes to mind with me is if the bulb is going flat, I'm wondering if the vent to your tank is plugged or somehow not open, or there is a kink in your gas line somewhere. If the line is kinked (like you'd kink a garden hose) fuel cannot get it and it would flatten the bulb.

Second, I'd be wondering if the bulb is on backwards...(I know...stupid thought but I have seen this happen before and I have made that mistake as well...)

Do you have an inline water/fuel filter? Mine is in the compartment near the starting batery. It could be restricting flow also.
