Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Sounds like Jomusky and Kevin are in the running with a fish. Dad lost a board dunker this morning at one of my waypoints off the channel....dogghhh! Congrats to Justin G. on his engagement today, along with sticking a fish(edit: congrats to your fiance on the fish). Sounds like some good eats too. Wish I was there!!! Posts: 512 Location: Appleton | Tournament wrapped up today. 15 fish I think were caught today. I'm sure Jay will post offical numbers after it's over. Justin Gaiche's team nailed the big fish of the tournament with a 50.25". We led after day one with 4 fish but couldn't manage much today. A lost fish that would have helped came 2 minutes into the day and nothing after. Just a note to newer tournament fisher people, If you have a pattern that worked after day one and it fails to produce in day 2 find something else that works or someone will and they will beat you. That was the case today as our day 1 pattern failed and rather than change we got beat. Finished tied for 7th for the weekend. Congrats to the winners (not sure of the names). A big congrats to Justin for an amazing weekend for him (engagement, big fish) and to Brett Jolly for just being so consistant. Brett has been top 4 all 3 years which is amazing. On a sad note my thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the team from Missouri that had one of it's members pass away last night.

Posts: 512 Location: Appleton | Honestly I don't think any body caught a fish casting. On the other hand there were very few people who were casting. I must give a hand to the 2 ladies who spent the entire time casting. I know they told us they lost a fish casting but to just keep plugging away was super impressive. Good thing they won a cruise for their funky looking sandals. Edited by Team Rhino 10/12/2008 8:39 PM

Posts: 355 Location: Wausau, Wisconsin | From what I understand, there really hasn't been a HOT bait. I know Jolly has caught 10 fish on 10 different baits. Both of our fish were on very different baits. Jeff was about the only one who had a consistent pattern from what I heard outside of the normal small crankbaits like Shallowraiders and Depthraiders. What a thrilling time for me. This weekend was no doubt, memorable. On Thursday I woke up, picked up the engagement ring I had for Sarah, Chris Radant's boat and headed on my way to Green Bay for the Muskies Inc., Best of the Best Tournament. I was excited about this tournament because Sarah was fishing it with me. She has asked to fish a musky tournament with me for some time and I thought a trolling bite would be the best for both of us. In addition, I had made plans to propose to her after 4 1/2 years of her love and support of me and my career. With ring in truck, I was halfway to Green Bay when POW, the leaf spring on the trailer busted. What a mess. Ruined a tire and scared the crap out of me. Luckily I was at the exit for the Shawano Travel Center where after a phone call, a super guy came, ran around town and repaired my trailer. Thanks to American Marine for getting me in touch with this guy. After nearly four hours of looking for parts and fixing them, I was back on the road and was grateful for this guy's patience, hard work and reasonable price all on the day of his 26th Anniversary. I made it to Green Bay alive and was hosted by Capt. Jolly. We dranks some beers and ate some Chinese and called it a day. The next morning I would spend the entire day prefishing and eliminating water, well, I eliminated it all. I had two rips and a plastic bag and it was very untelling. Barely enough to put together a game plan, but nonetheless, I did. The morning was amazing, Sarah knocked off her feet, agreed to marry me and then she caught her first musky, a 43.25" right off the bat. It was hard to tell which she enjoyed more, the ring or the fish. We went the rest of the day without a strike and enjoyed watching an old guiding client and now friend, Jeff and his partner nail four fish. At day's end was glad to hear our host, Brett and Lucas were in second as well and we sat in eighth. The night was great as this club really hosts a wonderful tournament with great meals and raffles. We sat down and had dinner with a man from Missouri and heard about his marriage and children and his love for hunting. It was tragic to hear that would be his last meal but we felt blessed to get to know him in that short time as he seemed like a very nice man. I'd like to send my prayers to his family for their loss... The next morning we experienced another amazing day of 80 degrees, sun and no wind...In October, on Green Bay. Now all of the boats were in one spot and the bite was going to be tough this way. Sarah and I boogied out of there and went for the home run, some small humps way out in left field. As our boards came off the far hump, wham, the board sunk. We did not see it for 20 seconds as 100 feet of line peeled off the reel before Sarah could get the drag down a little bit. I questioned if we somehow got snagged, there was no movement. Then without notice, this pig jumps out of the water. She owned Sarah and it was awesome. minutes and minutes went by. I was able to get the other lines out, get the big motor trimmed up, get the net out and still, no fish nearby. Then Sarah started to gain on her and as she came up I yelled "It's shovelnose!". I scoop and we screamed loud enough for the judge boat to hear from over a mile out. A couple of years ago, I had put a pit tag in a fish like this with the DNR that was in the low 40's I think. I have a photo that I can't match up with this fish because it's different sides, but...there is a possibility I've held this fish before. Even with her jacked up face, she hit the 50.25". Not bad for a girl's second musky and second day in a tournament. I can't help but think of this as an engagement blessing from the big guy, he sure has blessed me with a lot over the years.
