Last week I was in Rollies and picked up the Pro-Logic/Savage Gear catalog and came away intrigued by the line-up of rods made by Savage-Gear.. Same deal with the baitcaster they make.

Does anyone know whether there is a "U.S. Market" for their rods and reels yet? I have checked a few places online but honestly would not be thrilled to order from overseas. I also forgot to check and see if Rollies even had their rods and reel in stock.

Also, the photos in the catalog probably don't tell the whole story, but does anyone know if the rods and/or reel is of quality and worth a try?

I would like to try their products for the lesser-desired Esox species (Pike).

I'm seriously considering getting either a casting rod or a heavy-duty spinning rod from them if the price is right and if it all makes sense.

thanks!

Savagear hasn't imported the rods and reels to the US yet. I have a couple of their rods that they gave me to test and they are very nice. I know they are working on a line of rods that would be more along the lines of what US musky anglers are used to (cork handles, rod actions, etc.). Not sure how that is progressing but the prototypes I messed around with were very nice. The reel that they show in the catalog is also not available in the US just yet. Please notice that they were only selling the reel in a left side crank version. According to what I was told, that is very common in Europe. We'll see what happens.

Alrighty. Thanks for the word, Pete!

I honestly wouldn't mind the felt handles or whatever the black stuff is on their current rods. I just like being different I guess.

This might sound random, but I think last year summer '07 I came into the shop and struck a conversation with I think it was you. Out of all things, it was about high school - St. Joseph in Westchester IL. You wouldn't be a graduate from there from way back in the day in the early '70's, are you?? If not you, it was definitely some other employee at the shop!

Let me know. It's bugging me and I'm trying to remember! HAHA thanks!

Yes, that was me. The infamous class of 1971. We were kind of a rebellious lot. Living in the times etc. Not only was our senior prom cancelled they didn't even put out a yearbook that year. We certainly didn't fit the mold of a typical "Christian Brothers" school.

I printed those catalogs for the US Market and have tried to get in touch of Stu. Their US office has a message that they have closed US operations. When I try his Cell I get his VM but he does not return calls. Looks like they gave up on the good old USA!

Stu's office in Montgomery IL for SAVAGE GEAR is CLOSED UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had 12 of the new 10" 4-ply baits on order from him, and went to see if they had came in and his office was closed up, that was on OCT 1 2008.
