I'm headed to lake vermillion this weekend. Does anybody have any updates? Water temps, colors, structure? Also, has the lake turned over?

Thanks

Surface temps around 61, hasn't turned over and I don't know if it will as it didn't get very warm this summer, good luck

just got home from vermillion. Surface temps 53 to 55. Lake was starting to go. Some areas had solid junk 5 feet off the bottom and brown tint on the surface. Was going to fish all weekend but packed up.

What types of areas were you finding walleyes? Just curious is they were shallow or deep etc.... may help locate feeding muskies while I am there.

Thanks for the info.

Most of the Walleyes on the east end are deep. Been catching them on jigs/minnows in 25 to 40ft off of sharp breaks on main lake structures.

Muskies have also been deep, try along the island shoreline breaks and on deep points in the main lake. Crankbaits and
slow rolling "Big" spinnerbaits, has been very effective for me this week.

There won't be any turnover on most of the lake. Water temp in the main basin is 54 degrees. Still to warm for turnover, I would look for it in about a week or so.

Some parts of the lake have turned or in the process while other parts have not. One thing to keep in mind is each basin is different so if you are confronted with unfavorable conditions move. We did catch a couple of fish last year right after or during turnover. The surface water must of had less oxgen and been lighter than deeper water because both of the fish had a hard time trying to stay upright on the surface but as soon as we got them under about 1 1/2 feet they recoverd rather quickly. Something to keep in mind if it should happen to you.

Fished hard thursday in almost four footers friday rain all day but no wind saw only two fish on fri and caught one in the late afternoon a fat 44 1/2 not huge but will take it. Eat a 9" grandma casting the rocks on the east end. First time there under pretty tough condions.

Buddy and I were up Fri through Mon. Fished hard dispite the weather moved three fish, two on surface and one on hair. Surface temps were 51 to 54. All action came from shallow rock. Good luck to you guys this weekend wish I could go!!
