Well now I've really heard everything- I was up at Lake Arbutus (Hatfield WI). ToddM- yes, I went out on a stained water lake. But I stopped at the Bait Shack in beautiful downtown Hatfield. Asked Harold (the owner) where the public launch was and if he had lake map. Said I was going after Muskies, i.e., CPR . Of course he related the story of the 6 1/2 footer that inhabit's the lake and no one can get the fish into the boat.. But he also told me about guy fishing for Catfish w/ sweet corn caught a 44", even showed me a photo. Nice fish (dead), Harold also had a bunch of other photo's- probably 1995- to date. Obviously productive lake for all species, including Muskies. He had ~ 20 photo's of Muskies many in 40's w/ largest at 48" unfortunately I believe most were killed. A 44" Muskie on sweet corn- go figure! Maybe sweet corn flavored Muskie scent?

I wonder if Maybe a smaller fish ( Carp, Bullhead, perch, gill, ETC ) picked up the corn and the ski hit the fish and got hooked????

AL, I am sure it was the fact the corn was sweet that caused the muskie to take it. Had it been the field corn variety, the fish would have surely rejected the offering. Was it buttered?? Maybe THAT is the trigger.

What is with THAT? I fished hard yesterday for Muskies, and lost the one I got to hit an Undertaker despite 4/0 hooks, a leader, and 60# line....

Hey maybe if I weight an ear of corn and put hooks and an eye on it I can make it into a glide bait?

Esox maniac, your story has a flaw. No way you fished a stained lake.LOL How did you do? Hopefully good.
