Posts: 2686 Location: Hayward, WI | Below are some pictures of a new bait from Chaos Tackle - the Medusa. From what I know, they have only been available to the public at Rollies and Thornes within the last week or so. I thought I would order one to try out. They are selling for $20. -Weight is reported at 8 1/4 oz. -Length is reported at close to 10 inches -I think 8/0 hooks Brett Erickson at Thornes reported catching 12 muskies and quite a few pike on a prototype before giving it back, and said it was still fishable. I would say the plastic seems pretty dense and tough, but I think the Andy's Shack Attack lures still seem like they might be a little more dense, and more durable. Time will tell how they hold up to fish...hopefully anyway! They are supposed to glide somewhat on the pull, I suppose due to the big, flat belly. I took some pictures of mine between an 8 oz. Super D and an 11" Curly Sue for size reference. In the pictures, and in person, the Medusa looks a little smaller. But, it has a little taller profile for it's size than the other two, and I think with the wide, jagged cut sides and three tails it will still have a pretty sizeable profile in the water. It's a little crazy looking with all the jaged-cut edges and three tails, but apparently it's the new "hot" item. Figured I would give one a try. Anybody on here been using them? curleytail Edited by curleytail 11/16/2008 3:06 PM Attachments ---------------- medusa 1.jpg (173KB - 380 downloads) medusa 2.jpg (169KB - 562 downloads) medusa 3.jpg (147KB - 354 downloads) medusa 4.jpg (113KB - 353 downloads)

Are you the owner of Chaos Tackle as well?? Wow, you sure assumed a lot in that post. I meant nothing negative in my original post. The only reason I said supposedly is because I seached the name on Google, and the exact bait came up, but I couldn't read anything because the page was in a different language. It looked like the bait had been out for a while, but maybe not marketed and sold in the U.S. Jeez, I think I post on here enough that you should know I: A-don't start things and B-Am probably not the owner of a bait that I am trying to market. And the reason I know about it is Muskyhunter has a discussion with about 45 replies on it talking about the bait... Can we all take it easy and get back to the original topic now? curleytail

Posts: 267 Location: Ft. Wayne, Indiana | I got mine a couple days ago and can't wait to use it. They look great, but the plastic isn't as dense as the Shack Attack baits. But, they are also a new bait with a completely different profile then any other bait.

Location: Illinois | I fished with one yesterday and I didn't stick with it long. My 1st impressions are that it's fast sinking & doesn't glide very well (though I didn't "bend" it). I think it's three tails look nice in the water, but nothing beats the twirl of the bulldog tail. It may be a good bait to jig or fish those deep breaks. It's plastic appeared pretty hardy. Mike

| Used it this past week, no fish, but I think it looks great.. I like the fact that it sinks faster, as it is easier to fish deeperwater with this bait. The action looks great, the bait feels like it is well built and I am positive it will put fish in the boat.. I really hope that a bigger one is made for next year, as well as a shallow runner. | |||

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Muskellunged-Surprised it does not have the glide that it would appear to have? Looks like the belly is a little wider and might support the bait more for a nice glide. Interesting looking bait! I have one on the design board now with 4 tails but the tails are nothing like the current swimbaits or this Medusa lure. Trying to figure out a wing type design to get mine to glide and when I saw this Medusa the belly looked a little wider. Need to get one to try it out! Heard it is a tough little bugger too. I have not seen the internal harness yet but I heard it will not fail before or after 1 fish. Always good when you are dishing out $20 for a rubber lure! As for a Google search, I didn't find anything when I searched for "Medusa Swimbait" on this lure: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=medusa+swimbait&aq=f&oq=

Location: Illinois | I may have been working it incorrectly, or it may have been too deep for me to notice a glide. I'm not sure, so hopefully we can hear others testify to it's "glidability". My impression, quite possibly wrong, is that the bait is too heavy for the flat bottom to achieve a glide? Who knows but I look forward to trying this bait out a few more times this season. I do like the wide gap hooks and the consistency of the rubber as well as the innovative design.

Posts: 2686 Location: Hayward, WI | I fished a little today and tried this bait out some. I haven't quite decided about the glide either. I only made a few casts with it, since I did not have time to sharpen the hooks yet, and didn't want to take the time to in my limited time to fish. Anyway, I would say it has more of a hopping action to it than a glide. I think it might glide "down" at less of an angle than a stock Super D does. Bending it up a little might give it a bit more of a glide. The weight is also quite foreward in the bait. If the weight was a little farther back I think it might glide more. I also didn't notice that it fish THAT deep. Seemed fairly comparable to a Super D. Just like other rubber baits, I'm sure it can be tweaked by bending the harness. Anyway, glide or not it looked like it should catch fish. I don't know that I'd call it the next super secret lure, but I think it has a place in the tacklebox. After this weekend I'll be out fishing until the season closes, so I should be able to use it a little more and report back. By the way, this is the site I had found. http://pikewallis.blogspot.com/2008/11/chaos-tackle-medusa.html I just noticed that it is a blog, and is dated Novemner 7th of this year, so It doesn't look like it has been overseas previously. My mistake. About all I can make out is "Chaos Tackle-Minnesota USA", Jason Summers, Medusa, and tripple tail. I thought it was interesting that tripple tail was in English! curleytail

Posts: 501 Location: Norway | Attitudebaits in Sweden, sells them here in Scandinavia. And the text on the blog is snipped from AB's homepage. The text says: Medusa is the latest hot rubberbait from Chaos Tackle, Minnesota USA. Behind the bait is Jason Summers, a Previous World Champion on the Pro Muskie Tour. It has been tested by topguides, Jason Hammernick, Gregg Thomas and Brad Hoppe and has shown good results. The rest of the text describes the bait, triple tail, harder rubber blah blah. Michael

| MUSKIE! NUT- Why is it that you need to take such a synical tone? I cannot believe how much negative conotation there is in response to some posts. I frequent this site very often and really enjoy keeping up with everything when not on the water. It is interesting to here different perspectives on tactics, etc. and is relaxing after a long day at work. The great thing about Muskie First is you don't have to wait a couple of months to get your next issue of Muskie Hunter. You can get your fix daily.... All I am trying to say is, if you truely enjoy the sport of Muskie Fishing and all that goes with it then please show it with tactful and insightful posts/responses. This site will be the better for it. (And, no I am not Currlytail...I am an avid user posting as a guest b/c I DO NOT want this to start a pointless debate...THANKS!) | |||

Location: Twin Cities | I've used this bait a bunch recently. It's moved some fish, nobody's taken a swipe yet. It's easy to fish it deep, it wants to get down based on the weight being forward and the eyelet position. Straight retrieves and longer paused retrieves bring it in a solid 10-12 feet down. I'd like to get it to glide more, i'd be curious to see a bigger size and one in all black as well.

Posts: 1504 Location: Oregon | Looking at the lure it doesn't surprise me at all that it doesn't glide. One long tail on great glider will keep it from gliding because of all the water resistance at the back of the lure. A long tail is always "pulling" back on the lure and three tails would for sure keep it from gliding. Jed V.

Posts: 432 Location: mpls | I fished one this summer, It is a really nice bait for fishing deep breaks. It sinks at a pretty fast rate( faster than a dawg). There is No glide that I could get it to do. I think the shape actually pushes it down. Something different than what's out there. The plastic and finishes are nice, maybe a little denser than a Dawg. I was actually surprised how the tails never tangled in the hooks! New secret bait? Maybe not, but I'd buy one. Posts: 719 | I have used them a bit this fall and have a few fish on them. nice well built bait that I suspect will be even more productive in warmer water with all the stimulation from the triple tails.
