| Hey guys and gals. I have been throwing the pounder latley with a rod that is by far too light. And it is time to upgrade. I was wondering what any of you use to throw the pounder with? What rod, what lure weight, what action, and what length? Thanks in advance Tom Boley |

Location: Iowa Great Lakes | I don't use pounders but I have a 8' MI Monster rod for 11" curlie sues. Handles them like a dream, rated to 40oz. |

| Edge series rods will break casting pounders. I don't believe Keith is now recommending those rods for pounders. I snapped one like a twig.
I am having him make me a 9' built out of the St Croix Legend blank. |

| Best pounder rod I have ever used is the Jason Hamernick 9 foot rod.
Awesome at LAUNCHING pounders. Used it this weekend and it again performed great.

| BN is right with the new Edge blanks. They were more designed like the heavy action DB where last years had more material in them. Yours is still fine Mike because it was last years.
I would use the Premier or the Legend Tournament XH St Croix for them. Hard to beat St Croix right now. For one of the first times a rod company put more strength in a rod without adding materail. Added material adds weight. It really is the real deal. You cannot physically squeeze and break the blank. It is the real deal. Read the ART.

You can buy them direct from Jason, his rods are top notch. I know a guy that likes the "HAMER" rod better than his custom 9' St. Croix Legend Tournament!!!
Says the St. Croix is a pool stick compared to the "HAMER". |

Keith, will the Edge rods ever change back to the older blanks, and be able to handle the heavy baits again? I REALLY liked my Edge rod until it broke. It had a fairy steady diet of 11" curly Sues, so I guess that's what did it in. Wouldn't have thrown them on it had I known it wasn't cut out for that.
The Edge series is still a VERY nice rod for everything besides the really heavy stuff. Great for Super D's and other baits. Handled double 10's pretty well too, and has a GREAT powerful backbone for fighting fish. Keith's thick handles also ROCK. Just not built for the heavy stuff I guess.

| I missed this. Sorry for not responding sooner. I just noticed it when Lambeau put it in another thread.
Either series would work. I have not built on the Premier XH because it is not out yet to rod builders. As soon as I can get my hands on all the new lines of St Croix I am going to. I plan on building on St Croix for next year. With the feedback I have been getting on the St Croix customs I built last year, most of the Pro Edge rods in 2009 will be built on St Croix SCII and the IV blank. |
