| i hear all sorts of different reports from people fishing and what they saw and caught in day. just wondering what is consider a good day of muskie fishing? |

| any day musky fishing is a good day. hows that sound?
to each its own.
Ive had many multiple fish days and could careless about those...but sticking a nice pig is a good day.
just being on the water with friends and family is what makes it a good day.... |

Location: Kodiak, AK | Yeah, it's pretty cliche, but any day you can get out and have a good time is a good day. No fish, no follows today. But somewhere is some guy who can't get away from work, can't afford gas or let alone a muskie boat, lives two hours from good muskie water, whatever. It was a goo day for me. I live three minutes from one of the best muskie fisheries in the country, and I have a boat to put in the water (thanks Sled). Today was a good day. I had fun. I enjoyed the weather, and I look forward to learning this fishery.
Now there are bad days...crap don't work, something breaks, run-in with a jerk or something. There's bad days, but I didn't contact a fish today and I felt like the luckiest dude on the lake. I can't wait to get back out tomorrow. I've fished three days in a row now, with more to come. That makes it good. |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | I agree, just being on the water for me. But otherwise, giving myself or someone else a shot or a chance at a fish every time out is why I'm out there. Doesn't always happen, but get a pattern going or figure something new out about a body of water is always right up there with catching a fish in my book. I could care less about numbers.

Pretty much any day I can fish with lambeau and not break any of his stuff is a good day. Wait a minute, even the days I break his stuff end up being pretty good days. 
Read esoxfly's post again and you can change a few things and it would read like mine if I was ambitious enough to type a whole post. 15 minutes from muskie water (well, half muskie anyway), a boat, although not as cool as his (thanks Sled), and hot weather.
I like a shot or two at a fish when I go out, but that's by no means a deal breaker. Sending Slamr a picture of 2800 acres of muskie water where I am the only boat on it ranks right up there too!

Almost forgot - any day on 'crazy old man bay' is great too - right?

Location: Cedarburg, Wisconsin | Any day the motor doesn't start to burn is a good day! Any day the boat doesn't start to sink is a good day. Any day you're running on plane wide open when someone says "Look at all those big rocks!" and you don't hit one is a really good day! Any day you look at the map and the islands and the map and the islands and still can't figure out where you are but make it back to camp is a good day. Any day the waves are breaking over the sides of the boat when your battery for the bilge pump is dead, and you can laugh about it (much later) is a good day. Any day you blow a tire to shreds at 73mph and can coast to an off ramp without damaging the boat while trailering is a good day. Get the picture?
If we are talking fishing results, it depends on how good you are and where you are fishing. Some of the lakes I fish are tough and if I get a fish every 40 hours I'm thrilled. Some of the lakes I've fished in the past were easy and if I only caught 3 and had 10 other follows in one 6 hour day I wasn't happy because it was just a typical to poor day.
Depends on what you are seeking. If I caught a pair of 45"ers on a crowded lake with jet skies buzzing and water skiers flying all over and fishermen cutting you off that would be a bad day, in fact a real bad day for me. If I caught nothing on a lake I had to myself, saw deer or moose, eagles or maybe a wolf, listened to the loons, shared the boat with a good friend and he caught a nice fish then that would be a good day for me. I measure a good day by how I feel when I get off the water, not always by the number of notches I carved in my rod handle.

Location: Athens, Ohio | Any day I can get out is a 'good day'. If the boat comes off the trailer and goes back on without breaking anything, the day just got better. And, if I even see something in the water that might resemble a muskie, it's a great day. m |

2+ in the boat and a few at boatside is a great day.
3+, amazing, Bill Sandy type day!
...of course any day a 50+ comes in the boat is an amazing day regardless of crap happenings and not seeing a single other fish.
I would say a good day could consist of seeing multiple fish at boatside, but man can that be frustrating when their not commiting.

I'd agree with this statement, I love any day I am able to musky fish but a good day on the water is at least one nice fish in the boat and some action from others. Any trip where I don't get skunked is at least a fair trip though. Not catching any... though still a lot of fun, doesn't qualify as "good" for me. |

If I catch anything at all, it helps. If I get a 36" + fish, i'm quite happy.
If I catch a 40" fish i'm having a fantastic day.
anything bigger than that, i'm glowing for a week, or until the next time I get skunked. |

but like i said, gotta take the bad with the good and any day on ski water is a good day!!!! |

LOL. I've said to myself "thanks Sled" each of the last four days as I'm motoring out of the boat launch and bringing it up on plane on the big water. I really enjoyed the gentlemanly nod I shared with another Ranger/Yamaha owner I passed the other day in the channel. I felt like a million bucks. I've always wanted a Ranger.
So, "thanks Sled."

| well, last fall i had 7 nice ones, good day. This year we took a guide out and nailed 6 in a day. The next day guide got 13, good day.....and his best day has been 19, really good day!!!! |

| I agree with the folks that say any day on the water is a good day. We always say in my boat : a good day is a fish in the net, a great day is when each fisherman gets a fish in the net.

Location: minocqua, wi. | i was doing fine til i read this thread and thought about getting out on that boat for a day on some big water ... that's a very fun boat to both operate and fish out of!
a good day for me is spending time with a good fishing partner and working to subtract your way as a team to approach the day and contact fish. it's a thinking sport and i tend to expect to score to have a good day, so a big fish in the boat is a good day ... shots at multiples is expected and in a long day on the water with a couple guys working hard should score ... scoring on all your chances is a great day ... fishing a whole day without contacting fish is surely enjoyable for being where you are but can also be disappointing, but then i'm fortunate to see deer as i leave the driveway, see eagles flying on the way to the grocery store and see lakes on both sides of the roads i drive daily ... the view becomes "normal" and "everyday" no matter how much you try to see it all for the first time.
canada is another story ... i could go there and see nothing and have a blast because it's that one week a year to be in such a place that is far from the "normal" that i'm used to. |

In terms of fish, I think you have to taylor your expectations to the lake you're on.
There's a place down here where If you see a fish and don't get run over it was a good day.
There's a place way way up North where it takes a 45 and a shot at a 50 to make a good day.
And there's 800 miles in between where the expectation gets a little higher the further North you go...
Well, Except in Vilas county anyway. No good fish to be had there. |

I also like to say that good friends on the water beats the heck out of any fish I ever caught. Everyone likes to produce, so a follow, a boatside snap at your favorite twitch bait or a tough tug on a bucktail will make time on the water worth it.
Enjoy life I just lost a good friend at the age of 49, way to young and not enough fishing together.
