Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Coming pre 2009 I hope ![]() I will have a few new topwaters out in a week. They are really cool. All props and wings are plated in real 24k gold. I have not seen many gold plated lure parts. Not sure why either, these really pick up the light! Some of you already have a few. I let about 20 go on eBay over the last few months. Thanks and keep those comments coming! I like the good but LOVE the bad! Keeps me improving the lures! Thanks James Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 2024 | James, Good call on beefing up the back section of the harness near the tail. That was my only qualm with the SuperD using it this summer with Reelwise. That little "nub" poked through several times. Didn't kill the bait immediately, but the more time it spent exposed the greater the odds of the plastisol ripping further. Glad you IDed and remedied the problem!

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | esox50-I did not have a lot of negative feedback on that but a few so it was worth the fix. I even had one guy tell me the eyes need to look more "real". Well, new eyes on these too as it was an easy change. They are the bass type eyes you see on the higher end lures but still have the holographic film behind them. Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I'm really excited to see the new generation of the Super D's. Can't wait to see what the new, 15% harder rubber is like, the new colors, and the MEGA D! I also think making that area towards the tail of the bait a little thicker was a great idea too. That was about the only little issue I had with them. One tip that seems to help there is to add some rubber from a grub in the hole that forms from the rear of the harness poking through. Seemed to help with the ones I had. Did I mention I can't wait to see the new colors? The few you had in that picture looked really SWEET! I'll be excited to see all of them. Should be something there for everyone! Thanks for listening to everyone's requests and acting on them. You can be sure I will be stocking up on some generation III's as soon as they come out. curleytal Edited by curleytail 9/30/2008 11:10 PM

how about the quality of rubber? Did you improve that at all? I had several that ripped and tore within several hours of fishing.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Guest-I am curious if those were Generation I lures (External harness). Wish I had never put those out but my average price was about $5 on those so in a way they were disposable... I have had very few problems with the Generation II SuperDs. In fact most tail problems come from nipped tails from pike and/or after a few big hits and then the tail goes. Most rubber baits have the same problem if you don't do surgery on the lures after each hit. I had one Mag SuperD that boated 13 this year and I did not mend it until after boated fish #10. Looks like Frankenstein now but is still fishing. The new plastisol is about 15% harder than my current Generation II SuperDs. I was unable to go any higher than 20% harder as I saw the tail action start to decline and we can't have that so I backed off a little.

These were not the gen. 1, as I got them from you this season. I have had several tails rip off, not from strikes, but from just fishing them. The harder rubber doesn't really affect the tail action. The old hand poured dawgs used to be VERY hard rubber and their action on them is the same as the junk soft ones. You should increase the hardness of the baits. They are to soft in my opinion as they rip and tear to easily from just fishing them.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Thanks Guest! Harder palstisol on the way! I have tested the new ones by cutting the tails and they seem to melt back together better too. Now I just need to figure out a good way to run a line or cable down the tail to keep those pike from takign the tails! lol I love hammer handles but not when they are out in force...

Posts: 814 | It looks like the thumper tail is missing on the new tails, is this something you decided to change?

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Nope, those were made from junky molds just for color. As you can see on the tails they were hand cut off (with scissors actually). They were not made from the mass production molds. Funny thing though, those tails wiggle just as much. I ran one side by side with one of my current ones. Its the big curl that really gets them going IMO.

Posts: 1938 Location: Black Creek, WI | So the Mega D's are coming... but probably not soon enough to get bit in October or November of 2008? I think you are on the right track with your "continuous improvement" philosophy. Lots of changes for the better..... Thanks for the update.

Posts: 427 Location: Wausau | Same question as Jlong - when will they be for sale and how do we order? Also, do you ever pour custom color requests?

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | I don't do any customs. Sucks up too much time. Andy from Shack Attack I think still makes some and also Brad from Musky Innovations will also do some I have heard.
