Just spoke with Kurt @ Island Sport Shop in Minocqua. According to him, River Run Tackle has been sold, and new production Mantas are now available. They are being sold through 2-3 retailers, and the new owner will be selling on the internet too. Kurt has a good selection, and his site address is: www.kurtsislandsports.com, phone # 715.356.4797

Who bought them? Last I had heard Paul P. was not selling or making anymore (well, limited production). hmmmmm

LOL I just heard a guy last week paid full price for over 450 Mantas from a retail shop in IL to sell on eBay. Guess he better start dumping real fast!!!

Maybe this was just a way for the tackle shop to get rid of all the Mantas they currently have?

Maybe not, but you would think the new owners of the company would let everyone know... it is a pretty big deal.

Why? Why not keep the market at a high demand and get all the suckers willing to pay 50 bucks for a pretty simple bait?

If I bought the company I wouldnt change a thing about the mantas, same packaging etc. No one would ever be able to tell the difference and I could then charge a pretty penny for a 18 dollar bait.

I have heard that the new owner plans to sell them from a few websties but not through very many retail outlets. He is keeping it small. Not sure you will see these at Rollie, Thorne, etc. ??? As for high demand, I know of three other companies in production or soon to be for unique gliders what will perfom similar in the water. IMO if I had 450 of the currnet Mantas I would be selling them before 2009 season hits

Thoughts like those are exactly why guys/companies are coming up with very similiar baits of the same or better quality. I'd much rather spend less than more for a lure thats going to produce the same results... so why not bring the Manta down to the original price? They would sell a lot more which would result in better profit. If you keep the price high you not only sell less because guys cant afford to spend the money, but you also lose a customer to a company who has a similar product for a lot less. I'm all for supporting the smaller comapanies who are trying to make a living like you and me, but not everyone thinks that way and will settle for a knockoff. I pray that my Manta doesnt magically disappear everytime I cast it!

I had a long talk with the new owner the other day and he is just now gearing up to begin selling the lures again. As I understand it, he is offereing them to just a couple of retail outlets right now. He seems like a great guy and I have no doubt he will continue to produce a good product and that prices on Ebay and elsewhere will stabilize with time and availability.
