Posts: 40 Location: Elkhorn, WI | I just noticed tonight that I had no water coming out of the water pump indicator hole on the back of the motor. I have been trolling the last few nights and I must admit I never checked to see if water was coming out, but the motor has been running fine. I shut it down tonight when I noticed the problem so I wouldn't overheat. I couldn't find any obvious blockage tonight but it was dark. Does anyone know of a test I can run to check if the pump is shot or should I just take it to a pro as soon as possible? It is a 2000 50 hr. 4 stroke and has run like a charm so far. Thanks for any advice.

| Use a piece of wire and stick it in to the hole, you might have simply sucked up a small rock or sand. Also with an 8 year old motor you should probably replace the some of the internal parts like the impeller, as they are rubber and will tend not to work as they should. | |||

Posts: 706 Location: Richland Center, WI. | I have had that happen before on my 2004 90 hp Merc. Can you screw a water hose onto the hole and back flush it? I can on mine and it clears it right up. Ken

Posts: 1887 Location: syracuse indiana | yes back flushing is a good thing.. let the water run through it for about 20 min. but if the impellar has not been changed in years , it should be done every 2 years regardless of how much it has been used.. i do myown on my 135 optimax. it is easy.. . or a shop can do it ....bill Edited by archerynut36 8/31/2008 9:47 AM

Posts: 40 Location: Elkhorn, WI | Thanks for all the advice. Sorry for the late reply but I've been away from my computer for a couple of days. I did find that there was something blocking it by pushing a wire in the hole. A couple of guys told me it's not a bad idea to change the water pump every few years as they do wear out. This is my 9th season on this so I'm going to change the pump. Thanks again for taking the time to send the advice.
