| My wife and I will be staying at a resort on Island Lake up in the Mantowish Waters in Vilas County from June 8th to the 15th. I know that our options are somewhat endless because of the chain of lakes that we have acces to, but here is what I want to know:
(1.) What areas of the chain would you concentrate on (are there any specific lakes that you would want to make sure you explore more then others)?
(2.) If you could only throw 3 baits, what would they be?
(3.) What else would you fish for besides muskies?
(4.) Where are the best places to eat in the area?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you, Terry Paulson |

| Terry,
I have fished the chain for many years, and have had solid luck on Island Lake. I have found that the key to putting muskies in your boat is moving around. I'll be nice and give you a good spot to start on: Fish near the island between the enterance to Little Fork (past the highway X bridge) and the "Watershaft" (Water Craft) Marina. There is a bar that comes up to roughly 5 feet of water and has a nice cabbage bed there.
If I only had three baits to throw, I would go with a Cisco Kid topper, a Mepps #5 black fury, and I would go with a smaller believer.
I would also fish for walleyes (although the spearing has hurt their numbers considerabley), small mouth and panfish.
The only good place to eat that I can think of at the moment would be the Pasta Cottage, in Eagle River. I don't remember the number off hand.. but the food is great.
hope that helps
Tony

I don't know a thing about the Manitowish Chain, but I do know enough about the Three Lakes Chain to know that Tone is describing Island Lake on that chain in Oneida County. Just trying to make sure you don't get too confused before you even get to the water. Sorry I couldn't help you out with the Manitowish. |

| OPPS!
I saw "chain of Lakes" and "Island Lake" and assumed that you were talking about the Three Lakes/Eagle River chain.
I have never fished the Manitowish Chain, and can not give you specific advice on locations to catch muskies.
I think the other advice I gave should be solid enough though.. move around alot, use smaller lures, and eat good food!
Once again Terry, sorry for the mix up
Good luck on the "other Chain"
Tony

| That's the back-yard of one of Vilas Co's best guides Howie Meyer (7 Islands) He's the man to ask or better yet if he is available see if you can book him, what he can show you in a few hours it would take you weeks maybe months to learn on your own. You WON'T be disapointed. [;)] |

| Thanks for the info guys. We just had a baby on May 9th and that will be the first time I will get out. I am going nuts knowing that I am going to have to wait that long. But it is worth it. Is one month of age too young to learn how to use a baitcaster?
