I don't know where to go in July of 09. I have gone to the same place for 6 days of muskie fishing for the last 20 years in ONT. But I am taking my wife this year and she won't go back the normal place. It is too primative for her . I want a 50" plus muskie with multiple catches of smaller fish . But the catch is I want to catch walleyes and muskies on the same lake. We will be fishing predonimatley walleyes but I don't want my muskie time to be wasted. We were thinking about going to the Winnipeg chain/Big Sand/Little Sand/Gun/Rough Rock/area but we want acomadations by our selves.

Welcome to the site! In short answer to your question- come to the Wisconsin River. Some 50 inch muskies, i've guided days this year with 8 muskies in the boat, and have had days with 200 walleye. We also can consistently catch 50 smallmouth in half an hour, but after that it gets boring and it's back to the muskies. I don't know where you're driving from, but this is more than likely closer than Canada with all the comforts of home!

i havent been to canada yet but my dad used to go almost every year in october or in july on eagle lake. it has great walleye and musky fishing. you would have a great shot a 50+ there along with smaller fish and a bunch of walleyes thrown in.

Question though, are those WI river fish now edible. Historically, they weren't due to paper waste. Not even talking mercury.

They are edible, but I think they say you should only eat one meal of fish per week from the river.

The dnr downgraded the advisory level this year for this part of the river, it's now just catfish and carp that you're supposed to not eat much of. Dang.
The clean water act did extremely good things, and in 30 years the river has gone from horribly bad to cleaner than Lake Michigan, Winnebago, and the Mississippi. Even a lot of the lakes around here have stronger fish consumption adisories than the River does now.
