Hey im going camping for a week this sunday on lake Belle Taine and since its close by me and my dad are going to try to hit Mantrap one or twice. I was wondering if anyone has fished it recently and if anyone had some tips they are willing to share. The last two years we have tried and even though we saw lots of fish each time they wouldnt bite.

Mantrap is pretty clear water, fish the low-light times.

i've got family with a place where you're staying (in fact, one of my niece's is named Belle Taine), take some time and do some bass fishing out there it's definitely worth it.

Good luck, August on that lake can be tough :(. I'd concentrate on Home Bay with spinnerbaits and perch suick-like baits and the humps in Lower Mantrap.

I was out there last weekend and didn't see a fish. I might be out there saturday for The full moon. It's been tough out there this year. That lake is known for fallowes.

Sewer . . . don't waste your time . . . Bell Taine's got Muskies as well as Wolf and Little Boy and then there's always Leech.

I believe you when you say that the lake is known for its fallows the two times i have been their we have had a total of 14. And are you sure belle taine has musky we where told last year by the dnr that there wasnt any musky in the lake but only silver pike.

Belle Taine as well as some of the other lakes south of Mantrap (Bottle lakes, Sand lakes) were historically muskie lakes, and i believe they're still listed as such on the official MN-DNR list. however, they aren't managed for them anymore.

you occasionally here about one being caught by a bass or pike fisherman, so i suppose there's a remnant population, but i go elsewhere even though we've got a family place right on Belle Taine.

i really wish that Belle Taine was actively stocked and managed for muskies...it's a gorgeous lake with tons of interesting spots and lots of shallow backwater areas that would/should be good for spawning. it's similar to Mantrap in a lot of ways.

I've been vacationing on Belle Taine for 15 yrs. Fish it pretty heavily and have never seen a ski. Mid Aug is usaully a great time for bass on this lake.

I agree that it would be a great lake for ski's but my understanding is that the dark house association on the Mantrap Chain is very strong and the DNR gave in to them on several of the lakes as a concession to stop spearing on other musky waters. I've also heard that this was great musky lake in the 30's and 40's but spearing wiped the lake out in the 50's. In my experience it's a very mediocre pike lake with very few overe 30". The last few years size on the pike has gotten smaller and smaller.
