read my whole post jim, it says 80 to 355 is an option. yes 294 is under construction but ive been using it and it does move, sometimes slower than other times but it beats going via downtown pulling a rig. fistsixfeet 65 to the skyway is closed til fall dont misguide the guy! justin i live in the heart of all of this feel free to email me. It's a good thing you posted this. Otherwise sometime come late August or early September, I would be sittin near the lake cursing IN and IL even more than is my natural wont, and trying to figure how to jack it around, and get on 80 W, and continuing to curse all the way around Chicago. If I never circle Chicago on that route again it will suite me fine, and I for one would rather haul my rig through town than go around even one more time.

Man, a Daley, public transportation, and several unions, can it get any better than that? Thanks for the correction mhunter, I didn't know you were poor.

It might be worth your time checking both IDOT and INDOT prior to your trip. I don't know when you are heading thru Chicagoland heading out or returning home, but I've been caught more then a few times late at night under complete lane closures over the years when they are setting steel over the Borman Expressway. The are currently setting steel how for the bridges servicing I-65.

I was lulled into thinking that at late hours coming thru Chicago that I could save some time, to get stuck for 1-2 hours for these lane closures after a 14 hour drive from Ontario. This happened two years in a row, but never again.

so if you were to get caught in the same situation again, you may have consulted the wrong group IDIOT rather than IDOT or INDOT?

I've always says there's only I between IDOT and IDIOT...

And the best way to bypass Chicago boys and girls? ANY WAY YOU CAN. You know why we all drive so fast around here? We're trying to escape!

Sled,

I could not agree more.

First time, I think it was 2001, 2:30am stuck heading eastbound on 80/94. After a few choice words, I sat back, shut the truck off and relaxed. I was stopped just 100' from the Lincoln Oasis.

Then the second time, I intended to cut thru the city and take the skyway, but forgot and found myself stuck within a few hundred feet of where I was stuck the rear before.

Let's just say there were a lot more choice words. Worst part is, you are completely stuck, no turning around, no ramps. Just shut the vehicle off, recline the seat and get some sleep.

Well just got back and went through chicago on the way back. It went pretty smooth since it was about 1 in the morning and a detour route that didnt give you any signs of where to turn next. Went up 74 to 39 route going up. Its a little bit longer but its an eaiser drive. While i am at it, you wisconsin guys have some bumpy highways! Geesh! Felt like the boat was gonna bounce off the trailer!

And oddly enough, the buggers have a substantial overlap!

Bumpy roads in Wisconsin - I'll say! We've got dirt roads in Athens County with warshboard tracks from school busses that are a smoother ride than the Wisconsin Interstates we were on. sheesh! Don't they have highway worker unions in Wisconsin? m

Mikie: They use old Cheese to fill the pot holes & ruts
problem is in the summer it melts thats why the roads get
so wavey especially just north of the dells
