Location: Illinois | Good luck in your noble pursuit! Much can be learned from reading threads on this site. 1st tip: Get to know the "Search" function. It can answer lots of frequently asked questions that "newbies" have. It's amazing how much information is archived for all of our disposal! 2nd tip: Don't believe everything you read, experience is the only real way to gain knowledge- and what works for one person may not work well for another!

same can be said about your favorite lake you want to fish... there is most likely a post about it on here
there are also alot of informational videos on here, i know Slamr and Steve Jonesi did a video on how exactly to extract a lure/hook from a fish while in the net...

Your bass tackle will rot on the shelf, you'll find yourself shaking off 30 inch pike ("Nice size but it ain't a muskie!"). Save your life while you still can.

| Well I'm from around Appleton but we have a cottage near White Patato lake, Oconto county so I go on their as much as possible, we used to go on Highfalls and Cauldron but with gas now we dont make the drive. |

| Well, first off welcome to the madness. Since you're new around here, here are 10 things you need to know:
1. I sound like I know a lot about muskie fishing. I THINK a lot about muskie fishing, but I only know a little. I'll happily tell you what I think any time I get the chance, though.
2. SLAMR: He is one of the moderators here. Despite the nature of his posts and his e mails, he really is a nice guy. And fun to fish with.
3. There are some guys here posting here who have been at this game for 30 years or more, who make a living knowing when, where, and how to catch muskies. When they talk, it would be wise to listen.
4. There are also some guys here who have been muskie fishing maybe three times who will readily tell you exactly how and why to do something they have never done or even seen. Sometimes that advice came from #3 above. Other times it came from "my friend who went on a trip once and caught a muskie..."
Knowing who is who takes some time. Rest assured though -- everyone here is here for the same reason. We all love muskie fishing! Well except Slamr that is...
5. You will catch muskies. It's very important to be prepared for that. More important than how to catch them is what to do afterwards, how, and with what.
6. Hire a guide. Ask questions. And LISTEN.
7. Have fun. It's supposed to be fun. Don't forget that.
8. Learn to do a good figure 8. Then learn to do a better one.
9. Muskie fishing is a learning experience. Whether you've been at it three days or 30 years, there is always something new to learn.
10. Never set a lure on the butt seat.
