Pros? Cons? We own a PD now and like it, but the new Terrova's we know very little about. Thoughts?

I made the switch this year and love the Terrova.
Easier to Deploy and the foot pedal is great. Nothing bad to say about it. I love it!

i have a powerdrive w/ autopilot and have used the Terrovas...a couple things...I didn't like the foot pedal of the terrova as the left/right and on/off buttons are small...i think this would be even more of a problem w/ bigger boots on when it's cold...i don't like using the footpedal on the terrova with my foot on it like a maxxum ...the powerdrive foot pedal is simple..and easy to use...also the foot pedals on the terrova are around 160 bucks ? my friends was having issues...at least w/ the powerdrive foot pedals they are 65 if they go bad...i did like the stow/deploy of the terrova but personally i will stick with the powerdrives...

If you want over 70lbs you'll have to go w/ a terrova.

Do they not make PDs in 80 pound units? That's what we'd be looking to do, is upgrade from our current 65 to a 74-80 but nothing more so we can keep the 24-volt system. Keep the responses coming. Thanks, guys.

Sean, if you're in the Milwaukee area, you can give the Terrova a go. I like this years model Terrova way better than my 2002 PowerDrive. I can see the clunky boot issue Brad mentioned above, but I wear Goretex hikers, and I don't foresee that being an issue through November. As for the pedal replacements, only time will tell. The Terrova pedal did take some time getting used to after the PowerDrive. The PowerDrive I had would move in the pivot area when hitting momentary on enough to annoy me although it worked. The Terrova seems more rigid of a setup to me.

for 2008 the powerdrive max thrust is a 70 lb unit...you can probably finds some reconditioned 80 lb units through minn kota dealers....sucks they don't offer the powerdrives now in 80 or above and MAKE you choose the terrova...not a big fan of the terrova foot pedal as reasons mentioned above...and 165 bucks to have a spare which on a week long trip is a neccesity to have a spare along...

I agree, Brad. If the Terrova foot pedal is as weak as the PDs, that's a lot of money to burn through for a key piece of equipment.

I also have the same thing happening with my PD as ESfishOX has. Lots of jumping around/wiggling when you turn the motor on and left off.

More responses welcome. Thanks again!

Tell you what gents, buy two paddles. One guy paddles, the other casts, then switch. No pedals, no worries

From what the Walleye pros tell me, the new Terrova pedal is very reliable. I'm running the MotorGuide Wireless 74 and Wireless 55, so far bulletproof.

I bought a Terrova last spring because it was the only thing available in 80lb in a non cable drive(from Minn Kota). Turns out I love the thing. After running the old old power drives along with the ones like bn has, the Terrova is a big improvement. It is also a nicer set-up than the new Power Drive pedal, which my buddy complains about all the time. The turning is lightning fast, the auto pilot is now digital, deploy is a dream and the pedal is far more durable than the old power drive pedals(so far for me anyhow). There are no more micro-push switches involved with the Terrova, but magnetics, so no more constant wear and tear on switches(or plastic coverings, which would eventually leak and cause the turning to one side to fail).

I'd agree that the pedal is a bit bulky, and I only use the rear touch pads, rendering 90% of the Terrova pedal useless to me, but the secton of the pedal that I use, is more responsive and easier on my feet all day than the old pd model. I still run a power drive 74 lb on my old boat, and it is a pain to work now, going from the terrova. Big boots or sandles, the terrova pedal(rear section) is simple to use, in that one does not need to move their foot front and back to go from sterring to 'go', and back. You can put the tip of your foot on the 'go' portion of the pedal and simply roll it to the side to turn one way or the other. It is just a matter of getting used to it, which doesn't take long. With that said, I wish Minn Kota would offer different pedals for these motors. I agree that the maxumm portion of this pedal is cumbersome, and not as responsive as the rear section, so again, most of the pedal doesn't get used. They could build a pedal that is 6"wide by 3" deep and that would suit me and the other touch pad only users just fine. I do like the co-pilot feature too, for this unit, and use it whenever fishing from the back of the boat.

After 3.5 months of use my terrova far exceeds the old PD. I could never go back to just 70lbs. Right now with the dail on "10" in flat calm water my gps speed reads 2.9 - 3.1mph on my 17.5ft - 1300lbs. craft. I agree with Reef 90% of the pedal is useless (to me) never use the roller steer. Only complaint I have is the constant & AP light is very bright when night fishing. When looking down to step on the pedal for boat adjustment my eyes would take a second to focus from the bright light. Fixed that problem with some colored plastic to dim the light.

Yes, I have noticed my AP Is slower on the Torrova. I really like the sonar and the remote wireless steering.

Haven't noticed reacting too much slower, although I have noticed the reactions being much smoother and much more 'accurate'. I don't have to readjust nearly as much with the Terrova, as I did with the old pd.

All this talk of foot pedals, get a wireless remote and a clip it to your rod and you'll wonder why you ever used a foot pedal. Wireless remotes are the only way to fly.

The powerdrive petal sucks compared to the terrova. Other then that, the only difference I notices was how much quicker the terrova turns, and it HAS to be more reliable then a PD.
