I was planning on muskie fishing on Pewaukee after a long hietus, but got asked to go out on Lake Michigan instead.
The lake was just like glass on Saturday morning, a nice laker, 8 very nice chinook, and a trophy sized lampery were the prizes of the morning. We released the lampery.....
into the industrial sized garbage disposal at the fish cleaning station.

Mr. Worrall, thanks for the updates on your 'Goon trip. I hope to get back up there next year again.

DH Buc caught a 46" & 43" muskie 3 casts apart up on Crescent Lake! Way to go Darrel!

I watched the Brewers win 9-1 on Friday and watched an awesome Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers concert on Saturday. I left the lakes alone for the Holiday and found out there are other fun things to do during the summer than just fish. That being said....back to fishing!

I spent the whole weekend in the hospital, and learned that I have to have yet another surgery! I also watched about 30 hours of "The Deadliest Catch" re-runs...

Some of those episodes remind me of a typical day of fall trolling on Green Bay!

As have I. Gotta love those guys (and gals). Really puts into perspective the"storms" and "wind" we put up with.

I spent Thursday and Friday afternoons/evenings on one of my favorite lakes, but I didn't really fish. Spent over 10 hours in areas of the lake I haven't fished much in the past few years and just spent time trying to learn more about whats what. I think I actually enjoyed that as much as I do actually fishing, ok maybe not quite as much.

I thought I may have been the only one not on the water this weekend, turns out it was a popular thing... I spent the weekend on-call for work... wishing I was fishing.

I think I am going to finally hang up the shingle and start guiding......for turtles. I've only caught 5 muskies so far this year but am on my second angry turtle. Just think what I could do if I tried!

Fished out on Mille Lacs on Thursday and haven't picked up a muskie pole since.  Spent the weekend on the water with the wife and kids fishing for panfish.  It all culmanated tonight with a big fish fry for the family.  Wasn't any leftovers......kids can't get enough fish.

Plan on getting back out this week, now that the holiday rush should be all but over.

3 strikes, 3 follows, and a low 30 inch fish for my boat for the last 3 evenings. Took tomorrow off so I could fish. Those follows on topwater (rumbler) are driving me nuts...I swear I'm going to catch them and then they dissapear. I think a couple of the strikes may have been small bass..who knows.

The low 30 incher was my first of the season, and first figure 8 fish! I didn't even see him, I thought I got caught in the trolling motor at first!

Didnt get any fishing in for myself, but I did do some Grad school searching as well as GRE studying. I did however enjoy a long weekend away from the annoying girls that are living with me at my place of residence.

Spent the week up on the three lakes chain. Muskie fishing was a bit on the slow side. Last Saturday fished with Greg S, we raised 2 fish all day then fished with Norm W. on Monday, raised a couple of fish in the morning and put a sub 30" inch fish in the net on a topwater around sunset. Spent the rest of week trying out some spots around the cabin with no luck. Got feed up and bought some minnows and leeches ended up catching a mixed bag of fish; walleyes, perch, pike, bass, bluegills. Was a fun week. Took a couple pictures, hopefully get them uploaded tonight.

Got out on the big lake Friday, to chase some chromers! We ended up with a couple steelhead, and a coho. Was really cool to sit in the boat and watch 3 towns worth of fireworks at the same time. One of the best days on the water in a very long time for me.

Fished the 3 Lakes Chain and a few smaller lakes within 30 mintues. 8:15 - 9:00 p.m. on Thursday had 4 fish try to hit a 10" Weagle - one jumped over the lure, one short striked, one was hooked/lost and one in the net...deep water break leading off of large weed flat. Friday a.m. Blanked. Saturday a.m. lost one a MagDawg suspended - hit on the pause and swam towards me...as I was reeling in line from my last pull and noticed more slack than usual, cranked up, felt weight, gave it the berries and notta...just a dawg bent in half and ripped from head to tail. Saturday p.m. - one hit a mag dawg and lost it at the boat trying to get the net in the water and another on a TopRaider - secondary weed line away from slow breaking shore. Sunday a.m. Blanked again.
Any one else having more fish hooked and lost than other years? Very frustrating so far this year...lost several upper 40's. Hope tempo changes as I will take my annual MN trip from July 18th - Aug 3rd.

I didn't even wet a musky lure. Buell's 25th anniversary on Thursday, LOL's parade and house work on friday, saturday we chased around then drank, sunday we drove to Little Bohemia in Man Waters....then spent an hour driving though Minocqua! We did do a little walleye fishing and I'm happy to have "guided" my 4 year old niece to her forst legal eye.

Went out on the 4th with a good friend of mine to a lake in polk county. He was pre-fishing for a bass tournament I was ripping super Ds off the other side of the boat in 4 hours raised 11 muskys up to 42" or so. of which I lost 3 and caught a little one on a figure 8. Boat traffic was nuts but the fish didnt seem to mind.

Finally got out for a weekend's fishing. Spent a quick 4 day trip up on LSC with a friend. We only caught 6 fish out of 13 on, but we landed a 49" and 52.5"

Got out for the third time this year, although one trip was cut short due to hail. Tried almost every lure in my box Sunday morning with no takers. Pulled up to a point and figured it would be a good spot to use my Crappie colored Shallow Invader. Made a cast, took two sweeps of the rod and put hooks into a 37.5. Not a big fish, but a pretty one for my first of the year. I'm going out again tomorrow night, so maybe I can get my second.

Had a major fund raiser for our Lions Club finishing up on Friday with a Saturday clean-up day. Sold out of beer on Friday night just before the fireworks started, in all for the 3 days we sold out of all the beer, food and corn. Just a slam of a event. I guess that a lot of people stayed home, went to the parade and save the gas money for beer.
On Sunday the wife and I just took a cruise around Pewaukee (slow no wake) stopped in and talked to John at SMOKIES about the "ROW BOAT TOURNEY" this Saturday.

Hope to see you all there,

Bruce

Fished the 4th and 5th in the morning on Kentuck and landed a 40" on a Rabid Squirel Tail. We moved some fish also on DBl Cowgirls but no takers. It was nice to get the first out of the way for the season.

Had a lot of family at the resort for the Holiday weekend and did a bunch of bass fishing with numerous cousins and uncles. Had a ball. Talked to Mark last night and he finally was able to get a number of big fish moving on our deep weed patterns. I think he said he lost 6 fish including a few in the upper 40 inch range on pounders out deep. He landed a few mid 40's as well.

I took some family rowtrolling for muskies/walleyes on Friday morning. Only had a few hours to fish due to the fact I had to take my rotten little nephews to the parade. Have been rowing smaller lakes that are good early in the season, and the bite had been good. Now it's over with the tell-tale signs like floating weeds and water clarity clouding up. The suspended bite on the big ponds should be going now, but can't get out until next week dang it!

Just spent 9 days in Vilas.  Fishing was, well, it sucked.  Water temperatures waiverd between 70 and 73 on most lakes.  42 degree air a couple mornings.  The suspended bite and grass was not going at all in the lakes we fished.  We talked to an old timer at Hardees on the way out of town and he said the fishing for sunnies, perch and bass went to pot during the week even before we mentioned how bad the muskie fishing was.  We ended up with 10, missed 8 and lost 3.  Missed/lost the two biggest bites we had, as usual.  Only raised 12 fish the whole time...More bites than fish raised.  25 attempts @ 13 lakes.  7.05 hrs/catch, 2.14 hrs/contact.  Those numbers look decent but when you figure all but two fish and two bites came after 6:30 p.m., you can see how lowsy the day time bite was.  All but one on rubber, mostly ripping pounders.  Had one fish hit at boatside so hard and abrupt it bent the top single hook out to 30 degrees!  Kreg got a ~40 on a lowrider over 40 ft, the most amazing boatside strike brutality I have seen. Had two fish take pounders on the fall which was basically at the surface.  Kreg caught a 36.5" on a pounder, funny looking.

Had 130# expensive flouro bit clean through using a mag dawg.  Two pieces of tail floated up later.  Hope it freed the bait.  Thought that maybe that was just a fluke, but the very next day I missed one on a pounder only to real in the bait and find a bite/nick in the leader more than halfway through.  A simple pull with two fingers and the flouro spliced like string cheese.  I just switched to flouro this season and am done with it.  How in the world do some guys go years without any issues?

Had to dive in after a rod at dark.  see picture of the month thread for story.  1 close encounter with a bear, one true albino adult doe, 1 snapped rod, 1 fried cell phone, 1 bent prop, 1 busted transducer bracket, 1 worm gear, 1 mag dawg and 1 trolling motor pedal...Priceless

Tfootstalker!! It appears you had a great trip!! Not many Muskie Lovin Minnesotan's zoom over to Wisconsin, to pursue the elusive on the week of the 4th, yet alone Hark Pounders for the so-called 34.25" Wisconnie skies. The land, lakes, and people make the state. I'm scootin over to Pelican in a couple of weeks, and may even fish Post Lake! Great photos, and a great post! The Flourocarbon leader issue with you is odd. Maybe the 48"+++ that usually munch on those baits don't have as sharp of teeth??? I know from your recent success, we will be hearing more from you at MuskieFirst!! Good job!

Fished Big St., High, Snipe, Lost, Irving and a bunny lake near my cabin....raised fish on each lake, often times multiples, some short strikes but nothing in the net. Seeing fish in 2 fow, inside edges, outside edges, and raised a big girl on a some mid lake humps followed a DB08...Pretty frustrating. Fish moving on bucktails, gliders, mag-dawgs, small twitchers. Just gotta' fish harder. Evening moon phases coming up this week...will hit those hard. Numbers down this year for sure. It IS musky fishing after all.
