| You may want to do a search on those motors. When I was looking at boat with that motor it had new power head. Search revealed alot of probs with that year. | |||

Posts: 401 | Here is my 250 story from this year. I lost power last year fishing a tournament in the fall. It was not a dramatic loss of power so I was thinking bad plug. I took it in this year after changing plugs and was given the bad news. My oil pump failed which caused the power head to go out. Bottom line $7,000 in repair. Crystal Pierz did some checking on my serial number and it showed that it was never registered with Yamaha at the time of purchase. That turned out to be a lucky set of circumstances. There was a recall on the oil pump but without the dealer registering it I was never received a notice. They were on the phone with Yamaha and within 30 minutes I was notified that Yahama was going to pay for the entire repair. I got lucky. Keith

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | I believe Yami was having problems with the 250 HPDI in the 25" and 30" shaft lengths and discontinued making them. The 20"ers were ok for some reason and are still in production today. You're probably going to be fine, but there was a well documented hick-up with the 250's and only the 250's.

Posts: 401 | For what it is worth. They put the old oil pump back into the motor and said they did not believe that is what caused the failure. The report run on my motor showed it ran 90% of the time at low fuel pressure. They really have no idea why it failed so quickly. Bottom line. Hats off to Yamaha for standing behind their motor which was out of warranty. I will be a Yamaha owner for a long time. Keith
