I have seen that some guys use PVC pipes that are glued or bolted together as a crude form of tackle storage. They look great to me and will mean not having to buy one of those lakeland monsters for $80. If anyone has done this, how effective is it, and how would you go about doing it? Thanks a lot.

A cheaper, less bulky alternative would be to use plastic downspout material that you can get at any big box home improvement store. I bought 2 10' sections for around $14 to use in a bucket system. I've thought about filling one of my boat's compartments with these too. You can also store most lures by 2's in the downspout because it's rectangular instead of square or circle.

OK, I took vinyl rain downspout tubes and cut them to length to fit my bait locker. I drilled holes and used pop rivets to link them together then cut some notches in them to hang the hooks. A final wrap of duct tape (hey, I'm from the South!) around the whole mess and added a couple boot laces to raise and lower it from the bait well. Works fine. Just a warning, those 8 foot sections of vinyl are not cheap, but well under the $80 you mention. They come in a couple dimension sizes, too. m

In the old boat I used some light guage pvc 4" for mine that I bolted together. Actually I think it was grey drainage pipe. Much lighter than 40 schedule PVC. I liked it a lot better than the lakewood boxes. 4" diameter was key since you could easily fit three baits in one and they would rarely tangle. It was also much easier to see what bait you want to grab with the larger diameter. Cut your notches shallow, I can't stand those super deep notches in a lakewood box.

Thanks for the idea on the downspouts. I'm gonna make mine sometime this week.
