I am moving my 3500C from a portable setup I have to mount it on the bow of my boat. I have it all wired up, but the thing wont power up. I can power my bow locator (an old Pinpoint) from the same outlet, but the GPS wont even blink.

The outlet is powered from the trolling motor batteries, and there is a 4A inline fuse right at the battery that I thought may be the culprit. I increased the size of that fuse, but still nothing.

Would there be another fuse somewhere that could be causing this?

I can power the GPS from the little 12V, 18AH battery that I have on my portable setup, but nothing when I go to the boat.

I haven't really had time to start tearing into yet, but thought I'd get some ideas here before I start ripping stuff up.

It's driving me crazy

You say you're hooked up to your trolling motor "batteries". Do you have the outlet hooked up to 24V instead of 12V? That could be a problem. What happens if you try a temporary wiring directly to one of your trolling motor batteries? If it works there, it would lead you to suspect something in the connector.

You also need power to the antenna, but I expect you know that. Even if this were the problem, your unit should power up with a "GPS Module Not Responding" error.

nope, its 12V. Put the meter on it last night. Wiring directly to the battery was next on my list.

Its weird because the locator will power up so I know there is juice there, but the GPS wont go. That is what led me to the fuse...not enough current available to power up the unit is the only thing I could think of.

I know the GPS is wired correctly as I have been using it with a portable 12V battery for a year now.

Weird. Unless a fuse were out and out blown, that wouldn't be an issue.

Good luck. I fought electrical problems all spring in my boat; last weekend was the first outing where all circuits worked.

I'm an idiot.

+ and - are different on the boat than on the portable setup.

Lesson learned...dont think so hard. It doesnt always have to be something complicated.

Good thing Lambeau swung in this afternoon before I started tearing things apart. I'm not sure when I would have thought of that
