We just purchased a 20 foot flat bottom Crestliner here in UT. We are looking to put a bow mounted trolling motor on it, but we need one that is easily removed as the main purpose for this boat is to haul gill nets and trap nets, so there cant be anything in the way to get a net hung up on. Is there a trolling motor out there that we could mount, yet easily remove without un-mounting the entire thing? I thought I saw something like this on a motor guide but am not sure. If anyone has any ideas please fill me in. Thanks.

most all trolling motors have quick release plates that make it fairly easy to remove them.

My Maxxum is a little clunky, but I can still have it off and stored in the garage in under 5 minutes

the nets might still hang up on the quick mount plate edges?

i've seen some john boats with transom mount (clamps) used up on the bow.

Get a PD or Terrova, and the composite mounting plate. Easy on, easy off, only a 4"X 6"X1"(maybe it's 6X8X1) pad left when off, and I happen to have one brand new in the box for sale!

I love my minnkota auto pilot. 70lbs or more would be best

Mike,

One of the boats at the biology station I work at is similar in function (i.e. needs the front deck for hauling nets, room for multiple centrifuges and large coolers, etc) and they are looking at getting those trolling motors that clamp to the plate above the prop. I'd imagine your nets will still get caught on the mounting plate if you run a traditional style TM.

Here's a link: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?sto...

Upon reading the reviews... maybe not. lol

That's one option.
