Posts: 79 | I was fishing Saturday and caught my Rod in my boat cleat and crack city. I was wondering if it can get fixed or is she history it cracked between the 1st and second guide "reel end"..... I called Thornes but they wanted to see it.. I figured I could save some drive time if anyone has done this... Thanks Gary

Posts: 191 | Wow that is a tough one. That is the backbone of the rod. How long is it? The problem is they do not crack clean and the crack will internally and external go up and down the graphite. At best it will probably have to be reduce about 6 inch if it is fixable. I'm a rod build and put a splint in a guys rods, it worked but it maade the dynamics of the rod different. If it is an off the shelf rod, I would probably buy another one and call it a day. If it is a custom rod or a rod with a warranty try to return it. Soem builders and company have a componets cost exchange policy where you pay half the price of the new rod and get another one. Gloomis , figrig, diamond back have this type of warrenty. Good luck

| I've done the same exact thing - Thorne's 8' MH DB cracked on a boat cleat. The blank is toast but they can rebuild it for you. I think Diamondback replaced the blank for free and Thornes rebuilt it using the old components for around $80. You're looking at several weeks wait so I'd get it back to Thornes asap. | |||

Posts: 159 Location: NYC (and many weeks in MN during summer) | wow, what a bad break (no pun intended). Yes the blank is ruined. To make matters worse is that the rod is irreplaceable. No longer are the diamondback blanks made here in the US. Last year the manufacturing of these blanks moved to china. So with it went much of the quality. There have been a few recent discussions about it on this site and others. 2 weeks ago i purchased 2 custom TB diamondback rods that were 2 years old (the good blanks). Needless to say, the package and rods were crushed during shipping. Im still so upset, i havent even talked about it yet. Thats all I'll say about it for now. good luck randy
