Despite above average rainfall and some cooler temperatures, muskies have been quite active in the Wausau area with big fish having been caught and released as of late including a stocky 50 ¼” specimen. Bucktails such as Buchertails, Mepps, and those by Llungen Lures have continued to produce action from both muskies and pike with bright/dark contrasting colors seeming to produce best. With the increased current from recent rainfall, look for current breaks and eddies and fish these spots thoroughly. Deeper diving jerkbaits as well as Curly Sues have also worked well, especially those in the mid-sized range. Backwater areas have held a decent surface bait bite in the early and late periods of the day with prop style baits like the Topraider continuing to produce the most consistent action.

Tight lines,
