Hi guys. I am new to this site, and I apologize if this question has been asked before, as I'm sure it has, but how often should I be oiling and cleaning my reels up? I have had a lot of trouble keeping a reel good for a whole year. I put a lot of use on them and work them real hard, but I need to start learning to take care of my equipment because I can't afford buying new reels every year. Also, I am finding it difficult to oil a reel properly, like how much oil and where exactly. I really wish I could meet someone that knows what their doing as far as reel maintenance goes. If I could watch someone on how to oil a reel the right way, I would feel more confident that my reels will last longer. I guess I'm more of a visual learner, but any ideas or advice you guys could give me is very much appreciated. Thanks and good luck fishing!

That would probably be a great topic for a muskiefirst video when somebody gets the time. I would watch it and surely learn a few things.

Abu Garcias.......6500c4 which is blue and silver in color (a little older), I've broke one and the other still barely works.......7000iHSN which is black (went through 3 of these last year all covered under warranty lol).......the blue and gold c4 don't remember exact model number, sent it in to get fixed......one other abu that is all silver I think it may be a c3? sent it in to get fixed......and I just bought the silver 7000 abu a couple weeks ago, still works :). I just want to know how to properly oil these reels. Or, maybe I should win the lottery and buy all calcuttas........

The keys are to "de-grease", then lubricate sparingly...you do not need much oil in the reel other than a drop per BB, some on the worm gear and handle knobs. I add a smidgen of grease to the main gear and pinion gear and sometimes there's some packed grease around the clutch but that's really not necessary either. More lube equals slow reel.
