Help!
Will EnviroTex light protect a 30" musky decoy I want to display outside in a flowerbed? The carver of this decoy used some protectant over the paint, but he was thinking about having it displayed inside. I don't want to remove the protectant, since that could affect the paint. How many coats of EnviroTex light should I apply, since the musky will be in the sun for a large portion of the day? The advice of EnviroTex users will be appreciated.
Thanks!

I haven't used it near as much as some of the guys on this board, but from my experience, it tends to turn a little yellow over time. I'm not sure if it's due to UV? or some other factor. As far as keeping water out though, it should work fine. You'll want to go with 3 coats would be my guess. We put 2 heavy coats on our baits, but we spin them so most of the Etex stays on the baits. You might have to put it on in thinner coats if you don't spin the work.

Hi there, I use Envirotex Lite on all my baits. It does a great job but I'm not sure it will hold up if its in the sunlight. I don't think they have any UV protectant in it. Also when you apply it you usually have to have some type of abilitly to rotate the product until it sets up or it will sag to the bottom. Not sure on this but I think I would check into a marine varnish. It may take a few more coats but I think for your purpose it would work better. I hope this is of some help. Ken

If you decide to use a polymer coating from ETI, I would consider EX-74. This is a product similar to Envirotex with a uv inhibitor........http://www.eti-usa.com/indust/ex74.html. I also recommend you give them a call with any technical questions. They have been able to answer any application questions I have had in the past.

Thanks for the good advice. Unfortunately, I found that EX-74 is only available in one gallon containers from Alpine Imports of Rockford, IL. Not only is the volume too great, but the price is prohibited.

you should be o.k with e-tex if you can hang it from either end just keep turning it around, you'll have to do it every 5-10 minutes for the first hour or so then less often after that.i've done anything that big with it but use a similar technique on some large floats i make

At the hardware store you can get krylon plastic coat. Its inexpensive and I think it would work but have to probably reapply every year just to be safe.
