| I'm curious to here what rods some of you use when sucker fishing. I thought about using fiberglass rods for suckers and trolling.... Is a rods with a lot of backbone needed or do you want a softer rod better? Thanks for the feedback.

Location: lansing, il | i have been using the heavy 8 ft bass pro catmaxx (e-glass) rods and like them alot. i also use them for trolling as well. they are very reasonable too! |

| Mr Bette is right..go with some beefy 8' cat rods...the bass pro ones are good...

| I use the Fig Rig Glass Trolling/Live Bait Series Muskie Fishing Rods in 8 feet. They are excellent for those hard hook sets and also a great trolling rod.

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | I don't so much subscribe to the gotta have glass theory for sucker rods. Instead I use a rod with tons of back bone to absorb the big hooksets and a stiffer action so the hookset goes directly to the business end of the rig instead of being absorbed by the tip.
That being said...My sucker rods are St. Croix Premiers, the 7'9" XXXHeavy. Backbone to spare and a long enough rod to really stick it to 'em on the hookset. |

| if you want a great inexpensive sucker rod with more backbone than just about any other rod i've seen for the money...track down some Berkley lightning rod saltwater series casting rods...7' and TONS of backbone...I know a few guys who got these rods after I posted about them on here and they all love em too

| one other note about sucker rods...i would suggest 100 lb tufline / stealth etc for line...go with 100 lb on your sucker rods...
the lighter stuff can and does break |

Location: Appleton, WI | I like an 8' better for suckers. I also like the glass because they do double duty as a nice trolling rod. My favorite are the fig that is discussed above or the st croix musky glass. A little give in the tip is nice if you are down deeper in the waves. It helps the suckers not get jerked around too much. |
