Posts: 4 | I've decided to throw more spinner baits this year as they are kind of the swiss army knife of baits. My only question now is what weight to throw consistantly, or which wieghts to throw when? I just realized I bought a Pearson Grinder 5oz. Is this strictly a trolling spinner bait, or are there guys throwing these as well? Any help or suggestions? Thanks.

Posts: 311 Location: Ontario | We throw them a lot too, big pike love them and they get down 15-18' no trouble for big pike when the water's warm. Of all the casting ones I tie myself and buy I'd bet 80% are two and a half ounce. That has just been a great size for me. We troll with heavier and cast with some that are lighter, but that seems to be the size on the end of the line the majority of the time. I tied up some in mariboo with 8/0 hooks off the jig and 9/0 siwash trailers this winter for trolling, look out fish! I could use a spinnerbait for muskie from June until November if I had to, they do it all.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Anyone out yet with a spinnerbait with a #13 on it? I am sure it will come soon lol I have seen a lot with the #10s on them. Nice way to make a heavy spinnerbait so you can cast a mile but burn it in to keep it high with the #10 on it.

Posts: 1243 Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | muskihntr is correct. Kevin has double 12s on one of his spinnerbaits. Great looking baits! I have 6 different colors of that one at Musky Tackle Online. Aaron Edited by AWH 5/25/2008 9:39 PM

Posts: 291 Location: Madison, WI | Just built some 2.5 oz. with #12s (and a #8) and they run great. Their depth is very managable. You can run them fast and high or slow and deep. I built mine with marabou and man do they thump. Going to also do some 1.5 oz. with the #12s as casting the 2.5 oz. gets a little old after a while. Word of advice, do not attach the #12s with a snap swivel. I used a coastal lock snap and within a couple of casts, there was no #12 left on the bait. The force of the blade hitting the water probably opened it right up. Attach with a barrell swivel and split ring. The #12's came from Stamina. Nice........
