Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | I missed today's opener for only the second time in 20 years!.....Depression! I had to work today, and I recieved a couple of calls from Pewaukee Lake. It sound like the muskie were cooperating in a huge way for everyone! The weather was great, rain off and on, a nice chop, and no monster east winds which grab us so often this time of year. I understand Pewaukee has a no-wake rule because of high water for the third or fourth time in recent memory. I wish we could get some of this water up north where lake levels have struggled the last couple of years. I'll be on the water bright and early in the morning.........How does that long time saying go, "you should have been here yesterday?" The best time to go is when you can!

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | Sounds like a very different scenario compared to Central Wisconsin. It was cold, rainy, windy and fishless. Did see a sturgeon caught which was pretty cool. It felt like I should have been bundled up in Carharts with suckers hanging over the side.

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | The Milwaukee MI Chapter is having the 19th or 20th (or somewhere about there) outing with the Quad County Chapter of MI. The outing is limited to 15 boats from each chapter. There is a cookout tonight with assorted adult beverages available to those of legal age. Today, both Chapters caught three fish and are tied in inches. Tommorow from 7AM to noon is big time pressure to win the rights to the traveling trophy. Good luck..........to me!.......and everyone else.

Posts: 337 Location: Central WI | Anyone have any luck?? I got out for a couple of hours early this morning before the wind and the rain started. No muskies for me but it was nice to finally be on the water throwing baits. Also wondering if there are any specific types of structure or areas you guys throw when the water is up and moving like it is? Edited by bobtodd 5/3/2008 6:14 PM

Posts: 2312 Location: SE, WI. | Steve; That is funny because I rarely fish the opener , But did today. Fish really did go nuts...Especially early mourn if you were in the right spots. I moved 10 fish before 7;50am and boated 2. Biggest 40" Had 3 more hit but no hooks in them. For the day....7am till 4pm moved a total of 24 ski's. Get your Slammers ready!!! I heard Bill S was throwing free slammers in Peoples Boats today...LOL;)

Posts: 101 | I was on a local lake at midnight and fished till 5am. It was a nice spring night, got cloudy around 3am though and the wind picked up a bit. Fish were active right at midnight, and I didn't see a fish till moonrise at 4am. Had a fish take a swipe boatside on a DCG. Didn't see her coming in, or in the 8. I was pretty tired, and thinking about being able to stay awake for the ride home. That fish kept me awake till 7am. ![]() ~Dawg Edited by Musky Dawg 5/3/2008 10:06 PM

Posts: 203 Location: Germantown, WI | I fished Pewaukee on the opener by myself. Due to the weather it was not really that crowded for opening day. I boated a 32" on a Dunwright Dancer Mini and had 2 other follows on the same bait. Saw 2 fish on the West end and 1 on the East end. Stopped at Culver's to buy a sucker, but he didn't have any. Good luck to anyone going out today. Lake is under a no-wake restriction. Tom Ramsey member Milwaukee Chapter Muskies Inc

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | The Pewaukee opener was good for sure. Lots of fish checking out baits, lots of fish lost and a fair amount of fish caught. I got out with my brother around 6:30am and the fish were very active already. By mid afternoon the rain stopped, wind switched and it cleared up. The follows were low and slow after that. 19 fish up, two lost that were hooked, that was my day with my bro. Today the action started slow, we launched around 3pm under clear skys but around 6pm they got active. My daughter and I raised a bunch, lost one and boated a three footer. Most of the fish show no sign of spawning. Of all the fish I raised only a few had some spawning marks. 52.5 to 54.6 degree water temps as of tonight depending on where you were fishing. Posts: 880 Location: New Berlin,Wisconsin,53151 | Fished Pewaukee for the opener and Sanks had 2 in the boat before noon. I had a small on on at boat side for a couple of sec's. The weather was great for muskie with a mixture of rain and high wind at times and then a nice cold front. Sank fished Sunday with a few fish follows but nothing in the net. I'm going to try and get out tonight..... Bruce

Location: Athens, Ohio | I fished Salt Fork, Ohio for the 'opener', got a 36 incher that was just beautiful. Pics later today. Only thing wrong with that fish was it was 12-14 inches too short. more later, m Not a bad lookin fish. It came in on a DC9 that Chad tied up for me at the Ohio muskie show. Dang, I had to pay $20 for that silly bait so I could get one of these cool Musky Armor hats. Best fittin hat I've had.m Edited by mikie 5/5/2008 5:28 PM Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 159 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Man, i feel left in the dust. Sounds like Pewaukee is the place to be. The only fish Bob and i saw all weekend was the 22" in the pic. Tough days of WIND and ridiculously high water and current here in the river. I've never seen a muskie that small that wasn't being stocked. Nice catch Bob. Anyone can hook the big ones, it takes skill to get the tinies in the boat.

I think that fish thought he was free for a second. Ryan, those are awesome fish....really nice colors. Too bad we weren't into the whole muskie thing a few years ago when I was working down in Antioch. How long have you been fishing down there??

Posts: 929 Location: Rhinelander. | Actually went out up here and chased walleyes. Got a few of them and I watched lots of others being caught. I did not see anyone get a musky by acident or see anyone I could say was targeting them. I did see a beautifull northern pike caught. Was about 40 inches I guessed. I think thats pretty good for around here Northerns usually are dinks. Glad you guys down south did so well. thanks for the pics. Pfeiff
