Posts: 375 | ryan, it could possibly be what you are using to charge the batteries with that is causing your problem!. my new boat 3 years ago came with an on-board minnkota charger that worked great the first two years. the third spring i was not getting the run time out of my batteries that i did the first two years so i purchased new batteries and that didn't help. as a matter of fact i quickly "cooked" / "boiled out" one of the batteries (it took 4 days of leaving the cover off the boat to get rid of the terrible smell) before i realized that the onboard charger, that was showing me the batteries were fully charged and ready to rock, was bad. i replaced that battery and have since been using my portable black and decker charger on them (until i replace the on-board) and my run time is now back to like new! stan Edited by STUSHSKY 4/22/2008 9:36 AM

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Yes, I would agree with STUSHSKY, something else is going on here with your batteries. These on board chargers are real nice, but rarely tell you what is happening like the old chargers did. And I am not familiar to what is happening when you use the term "fried". To me that means burned up and the only way you can do that is when you are charging (unless you meant it caught on fire?). Can you explain what is happening when you mean "fried"? I had great luck on a AC Delco battery and got 9 yrs on it. I am currently using a Trojan AGM and that too is working great for me. My guess is that you will not be happy with any brand of battery, because something is happening with your unit that is destroying them.

Posts: 654 Location: MPLS, MN | Sorry, as far as fried it would mean they are dead, don't charge anymore not burned or anything. Maybe it is my onboard charger? I have had this boat the last 4 years and didn't have any problems the first 2 but the last 2 years I have with my batteries. Thanks guys.
