I have no idea how big my first one was. I was 17.
I was fishing in the wisconsin river for walleye with a spinner bait my grandpa's friend made for use on the TFF (come to think of it I still have a couple of them) I was fishing from shore right in the middle of town and maybe 300 yards below a dam. I was reeling in like normal when i felt a slight thump on the line and a heavy weight, Great I hooked a log, not that uncommon on the river, so i just winched it in with my 8 pound test line slowley but surely it came in, got it up to shore and went down to retrive my lure from the log and that's when i saw the "eyes" WHAT IN THE HELL IS THAT? man i was scared ***Tless!!! I wasnt about to lose my spinner so i reached down and grab this behemouth and lift it (by the gills!) and blood starts streaming down my arms. I hoist it up in a vertical hold and the head is about eye level with me and the tail is touching the ground. there are a couple of other guys fishing across the river and I yell over to them
"you guys want this thing?" and they are screaming "HIT IT OVER THE HEAD, HIT IT OVER THE HEAD" so im standing there holding this monster fish and looking around I thought why would i kill this fish, I don't need it for anything. so I went to put it back in the water and those guys are screaming at me to kill it. the fish had what looked like line marks all up and down its body. I had thought that maybe it just went through the dam but one will never know.

If I had to put a number on that fish I would say it was over 50 but I never measured it and it swam away.
I do not count that fish as my personal best but I am waiting to hold a fish of that size again.
and that is the story of my first musky, it took me 8 years to figure out I was bit by the musky bug.
Fishing never was the same after that day.

25" from lake winter June of 1990 I was 7. We were going in for a late breakfast I had my 3/8 oz Blue/ Char spinnerbait over the side of the boat about a foot of line out going about as fast as the martin 4hp motor would go when it hit. Been crazy for them ever since.
Cant figure out how it got fuzzy. Believe me I am not trying to blur the background.

Mine had to be just released by the WDNR that spring because it was 14" caught on a chrome blue back rattlin rap on the Tiger Cat Flowage when I was 10! I was sitting at the bow reelin in the bait with some mid 80's zebco combo and never saw the fish coming when it struck boat side with probably 3 feet of line out. Inhaled the lure luckily I had a 3 inch leader tied on. Next day My uncle and Grandpa took me to Pastikas and I wanted a musky rod and reel like his with about 20 different musky baits. The only thing I left with was a purple #5 mepps musky killer because that was supposed to be the hot color at the time. Who knows if it was a 5# bass I'd probably be fishing the Classic next to Iconalli. June 89'

I have no pic's that I can find of any of my muskies when I was still wearing velcro shoes, but my first was a 25"er on those prototype hi-fins where the lips always broke off.

Not my first musky, but my first legal was 43" in early May, and back then in 1972 that was a big deal. No cameras in the boat to take pictures of fish as you could take pictures of them when you brought them in, so my actual first muskie will remain anonymous. I don't even remember catching it. All I know was it wasn't legal so it didn't count and wasn't worth talking about.
