| If anyone has land at Lake Carroll, they are in the process of spring netting for walleye at the hatchery. So far there have been a number of muskies in the nets too. up to 50". I was out with them last Sunday and we only had one small one in the net. (some giant crappie as well.) I am going out this Sunday and will post if we get any good muskies in the nets. Too bad they arent spawning the muskies at the hatchery as well. |

Location: Lockport, IL | Back in the 80's there were a lot of big pike in this lake. Do you know what the status of the Pike is in Carroll? I heard last year during a spillway recovery effort there were 17 muskies rescued and one Pike that was 35". Other than that I here of an occasional Pike being caught measuring around 20" or so. It seems that compared to years back the numbers are way down. I beleive that they are naturally reproducing what is in there. Do they stock any pike in there? |

| They havent stocked pike in there in awhile. They supposedly dont do very well in there due to the water temps. Most of what has been caught is skinny and not thick and healthy. I havent seen any pike in the nets but i did hear of a good sized one netted. But that is only one. Couldnt tell you if they are naturally reproducing.
Now, the Muskie on the other hand, do well. The problem i am seeing is that there is resistance from some to stock muskie in the lake. It seems like the same old thing that they eat all the other fish. Some do not even want to talk about it. Muskie have not been stocked in there in a few years as well. There is a new fishing club president who really seems on top of things and is interested in getting the lake in top form. They are in the process of determining fish populations (creel, spring netting, shocking) in order to develop a true stocking program . Something which never really existed before. I am all for a well balanced fishery. Which means good populations of ALL fish in the lake. Lots of gizzard shad in the lake by the way. That lake could be amazing for muskie. It already is a great LG and Sm bass lake. Big crappie and good walleye.

| I was able to get again today (4/21). I am glad i did!! I held the biggest muskie i have ever held. It was 51" and full of eggs (Illinois state record? hmmmm) didnt girth it or weigh it so who knows. There was one netted last Monday that was Suposedly bigger. Even if it was the same size, who cares!!!! Had another smaller muskie in the nets too (32"). The lake hatchery has around 3,000,000 walleye fry waiting to go in the rearing ponds. I have pics and video so when i get the chance, i will post them. |
