| Does anyone have any knowledge of this product line? I looked at an 8' XH rated for lures 2-9 oz. yesterday priced at $99.99. Looked like a nice lower price alternative for throwing the BIG soft palstics. | |||

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | This might not be ab apples to apples comparison, but if it is anything like my Gander Tournament Series I bought last year it should be a pretty good rod for the price. Mine was rated for 1.5-4 ounces, and did a good job of throwing baits a little beyond the rating on each end. Did you notice if they have any 8' rods in lighter actions? curleytail

Posts: 1296 Location: WI | I'd buy one if they had better quality control. Almost picked one up last weekend, but I just can't get over how sloppy the wraps are around the guides.

Posts: 229 | id like to purchase a gander mountain (musky) tournament rod because ive been hearing good things about them for there price. does gander mountain make a rod that is atleast 8ft long and has a lure rating of (around) 1-5 ounces? id like to get a decent rod that has enough power to huck good sized bucktail and topwaters, but i also want to be able to cast smaller baits as well as the bigger ones. Thanks, Ajohnson Edited by Ajohnson 4/2/2008 4:10 PM

| I have the 8 foot rods myself and they are Nice Rods, They can be purchased for as little as 79.99 when they run their sales. As far as being sloppy around the Guides ? Mine look just fine, If you have a problem with one it is here store Policy to Replace the Rod No Charge...How can you Beat that.. I think some of their cheaper Rods are just fine for Musky Fisherman. I have seen rods there for as little as $29.99 to $59.99 that would work just great for trolling or casting. I use G.Loomis and Avids Myself Mostly, with Conquest Reels, and a few Okuma reels which I just Purchased. But there has been many of times where I see a Great Fish taken and they have a ugly stick and a no name reel... They say you get what you Pay For and I am sure that is true...........SOMETIMES.......but not all the time. I have a 7' Gander Mtn. Rod That I think is lighter in Weight and made just as good as anything out there and I paid $59.00 for it and have used it now for 4 years. Try them you just may like them. The other nice thing is if you save the receipt you can always bring it back for a Full Store Credit.. Mike | |||

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Ajohnson, I said it already in this post, but my Tournament Series rod I bought last year treated me well. Light enough to not wear me out, rated for 1.5-4 ounce baits, but threw 1 1/4 - 5 ounce baits fine. Pretty good backbone for putting muscle to the fish. It might not be as pretty as a custom, but I don't see any problems with the wraps or anything else. Saying that, the rod I am talking about is LAST YEARS rod. The Extreme Tournament series may very well be something different. There won't likely be too many reports on them, since I think the Extreme Tournament is new to the line this year, and the old Tournament series is discontinued from what I understand. I might be getting one for my Dad to try this year in whatever is close to the 1.5-4 ounce rating. I would have been been seriously looking into that 2-9 ounce model if I didn't have a Pro Edge rod coming sometime this year. I'm betting that the rods will be pretty good as long as they don't have any unforseen issues like breakage. So far I've had pretty good luck with the Gander products. And, if you do have a problem with one of their products they have a great return policy. curleytail

| Talked to an employee at Gander who saw me holding both the Extreme Musky Tournament Gander rod and a Muskie Innovations rod and he kind of chuckled because they are the same thing. Great to know since one goes for $99 and the other for $169. If you like the Muskie Innovations rods you should love the new Gander rods! | |||

The old Tournament stick was a pile of poo. I could name the mfg, but won't because we don't need bickering. It was discontinued at corporate, but my store stop selling it (and the mfg's line). I'm not sure about the new Extreme stick. I'll poke around to see what I can find. Sorry about the PM DJS, I thought you were talking about the old Tourny rod. I do know that there's new additions to the already existing IM 8 Pro Select line that's 80.00. An 8' heavy and XH. The XH is rated for up to 6 oz. veyr very nice rod for the money.

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Gander Mt Guide, was the issue with the Tournament Series breakage? So far I have been happy with mine for the price. Do you know the lure rating for the 8' heavy IM-8 Pro Select? Also let us know what you find out about the new Tournament Series rods. I'd be interested in them. You can PM me too if you want. Thanks. curleytail Edited by curleytail 4/9/2008 4:38 PM

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | Due to a few IM's I'll try to answer some FAQ's. 1) Breakage was the reason for my store's desire not to sell the old Tournaments. 2) St.Croix doesn't make the new rods, Trophy Technologies does. 3) 2 year warranty, but Gander has never been bad about taking back our brand sticks. 4) My store has seen 3 different models so far....7-6 Medium (2oz rating) 8-0....6 and 9 oz. ratings 5) They seem to have nice balance and the actions seem true. A Fast is a fast. 6) The new Extreme Pike Tournaments are 80.00 and could also be very very nice Musky sticks. 7) The Extreme's are 100.00 bucks. 8) No, the Extreme has NOT replaced the IM8 Pro Select! PS....Our GS 56 and 66 reels (made by Pflueger,b ut with 6 bearings) have went on Clearance for 60.00. So, you could get an Exteme and a reel for a cost of many St.Croixs alone. I think you'll like both the new IM8's and Extremes. Edited by Gander Mt Guide 4/14/2008 4:32 PM
