I have my Dads old muskie rod. It is a Ted Williams rod and reel. I know it is from Sears. Should I try to restore it, Or just let the memories be? My Dad went to his grave without ever catching a legal muskie on it. I was thinking of having it repaired so I could catch a legal on it. All it probably needs is a good cleaning of the reel. The rod is decent enough. If it wasn't for him, I would'nt have this sickness. Does anyone know of someone that could clean and repair the reel?

The problem is not going to be cleaning, but finding parts if something is broken. I understand the idea of fishing with a family heirloom but if it were me i would just keep it in a safe place so that it wouldn't get broken. Those kinds of items will be passed on to my children, when I have them and they are old enough to appreciate it. I have many items from my grandfather that sit, simply because I cherish them.
