I took my rig, with a 25 year old 4o H.P. out of storage a few days ago to do some walleye fishing. I did not drain the lower unit oil last fall(oops..), and when I took the motor off of the transom saver, some oil leaked from around the prop. I went fishing(short run), and have yet to take it apart to see what is going on. Should it be obvious as to exactly where the leak is coming from? Is there some sort of seal that I can easily replace, there? Thanks in advance.

Yep!

Sounds like there's some leakage around the seal. Take it to your local dealer, not a real expensive fix, but don't run it as there's probably water in the lower unit.

Thanks doug. The lower unit lube has gotten milky in short order over the last couple years, and I've been replacing it 3 times per year instead of once. I thought it was due to the little fill screw hole threads being a bit 'screwed' up. A seal going bad, makes a bit more sense. I'll take it apart one of these nights and see if I can create an even bigger bill when I take it in...hehehe.
