| I recall hearing the larger Opti Max motors had serious problems a few years ago. What problems could I expect buying a 2001 200HP Opti Max? |

| They had reed problems. I believe they extended the warranty because of a class action suit. I good friend in MN with a 2001 Mercury Opti Max 225 ( with 280 hours) had to replace the reeds and powerhead. If I recall correctly they now have carbon reeds. Anyway it cost him almost 12,000 dollars. I'm sure someone who knows more about this will be along directly.

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | They had a problem with the fuel rails and the powerheads blowing. Unless it's had a new powerhead up on it anytime after 2003 I wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole.

| the 2000-2001 200 and 225hp had a lot of different problems with injectors and thermostats causing plug fouling, and ultimately, powerhead failures. If the engine you are looking at has had the updates done to it it might be alright, but if it hasn't and has real low hours, I would pass. (Honestly, I would probably pass anyway) |
