Still a couple weeks away I think. They are still ice fishing on at least 10 inches of ice. I'm guessing open water around March 26-30th.

Check the webcam from the Fox Waterway Agency. 25-Mar-08 @0858 hours looks like all open water to me.

I think that is a pretty high current area. Most of the lakes still have ice. Still, not too long I hope.

I think its going to be 2 or 3 weeks before the northern lakes really open up since there isn't any current coming through there. Last year I was on the northern lakes by the end of March. Bring on the warm weather.

Still 8-9 inches of ice on the Northern lakes, shorelines are busting open slowly as well as the channels. Fox Lake is WIDE open, like Greg said, 2-3 more weeks on Channel Cath and Marie

Just talked to Bob's marina, they still got Ice on the northern lakes. Maybe by this weekend, if we get enough rain the next couple days.

I called the Thirsty Turtle on Channel and they indicated there is still ice and flooding conditions so the launch at the Turtle is a no go. I have heard that Bluff and points Sourth are open water but very flooded making it near impossible to launch as most piers are underwater. Thought I may save someone a trip.

Ice on Channel cleared today. The water is high but you can definitely get out at the Turtle. There was ice on some parts of Channel but it may be gone by morning. The bay by the Turtle is ice free. First trip out today-no takers, nothing seen.

Thanks for the report H.J.,its just a bit early to get things moving out there. Few more days of acclimation.
Early spring on Channel for me is strictly glides/dive&rise baits.
How was the clarity, temps and any floating debri?

Going to be on C.L. today also.

Clarity was good for the water being up so high. Temp was in the low 40's for the most part. I did read a 45 in a backwater. I would say clarity was 2-3 feet on Fox and Channel was 5 or so. There is a lot of floating debris and still some ice as a yesterday afternoon. Can't wait to get out again next Saturday. (you reading this Robby D.?) Good luck out on Chrystal!

When is it good to get out and start musky fishing? Where are some good early season spots?
