With the season a little over a month away, whats keeping you from hitting the water? Why does it seem that before X-MAS your sharping lures, cleaning the reels and getting ready and then your hurrying right before the season? With the boat in storage missing the lower end and needing a new head gasket, this will be the major hurddle to getting on the water. Plus the weather needs to STOP SNOWING with the boat in storage I'll need some meltdown to get here out of the barn!!!!!

I've got a ways to wait yet. I need a new roller on my trailer, I'll take care of that next month sometime.

Still pulling walleyes out of holes in the ice. It will keep me happy for at least a little while longer.

I just started going through "the pile". (The pile is a table in my basement where all my gear has been sitting since last fall) There are hooks to be sharpened, leaders to check, guides to replace, rods to repair, reels to be cleaned, lubed and respooled, tackle to sort out, clothes, hats, gloves, tools, lures all in a pile... Mentally I am ready to fish yesterday. But my stuff is nowhere close! By now I'm usually packing lures for opening day, not sure what happened this winter.

New tires on the boat trailer today. They rub a bit on the fenders, so I gotta tweak that a bit then I'm pretty much ready.

Just drive it for awhile, they'll stop rubbing eventually

The wife & I fished Saturday.....casting from shore/causeway into the only open water around. It was about 90% ice & 10% water, but we had a chance to cast. She had a follow, but with the rocks out 6-8' a figure 8 was not possible. That's about as close as we'll get for a while!

Netman- With the WI River being open- only because it's illegal. I know the walleye guy's are catching muskies, and some "northern pike" guy's are catching muskies with muskie gear. But, I just can't go there! "Integrity is like virginity, either you have it, or you don't!"

Good luck in 2008.

Sorno: What's that all about? The boat add on some weight over the winter, i.e., much like the majority of us?

I went from the small 13" passenger car tires that were on it to true trailer tires; the result was increasing the size from 155s to 175s and quite a bit more missing rubber than there should be (i.e., 1 whole row of tread missing). The tire shop is willing to work w/ me on it. Right now, my boat trailer has no fenders cuz I don't think it would have made the trip back...I'll figure something out.

Please don't get me started!!!  The wife already thinks I am obsessed with fishing and the ice is stil on the lakes.  She seriously thinks that i need some counseling, then again, sometimes I think she is a little light in the loafers as well!

Playing with all my lures getting them ready to go and put into the tackle boxes, got the new prop on the boat, bearings are done..............just need some soft water!

Ice and all that snow up at the Marine Store where my boat is being stored at... Just wish the snow would melt already so I can have the boat home and be able to work on it... getting it all ready for June 7th... *sigh*

Manta, dude, we're on the same page:
The wife already thinks I am obsessed with fishing - we ARE! My name is mikie and I'm a muskie-holic...
She seriously thinks that i need some counseling - that may be, which is why I sometimes fish with guides.

then again, sometimes I think she is a little light in the loafers as well! - well, mine too, but only because she married me! She'll never pass for 'normal' with that hanging over her.
It was great to get out casting The Cave last weekend, m

I'm one who can't wait. I usually start my boating season as soon as the Rainy River opens up north (which will hopefully be next week), but this year I couldn't even wait for that. Started fishing the Mississippi River a few weeks ago, which has been really fun. It started out with good numbers, and then when that thinned down, the size kicked in. In the past couple of weeks, we put a bunch of big eyes in the boat, the biggest being a 30 x 18, 12# monster caught by none other than Mr. Steve Jonesi. I enjoyed fishing the day with Steve, and yeah, he knows how to catch "bottom feeders" too!
