| Last few years I've moved to using much heavier weight wire for glide baits. Like 218# and 240#. Lately I usually throw Timberwolves, the big one mostly, and then some Undertakers, Phantoms and Mantas. The big Timberwolf gets a leader that's about 11" and the rest get leaders about 8-9". I use 12" 80# flouro leaders for pretty much everything non-glider.
What weight straight wire do you use and why?

Location: oswego, il | Leaders are critical to alot of gliders. Now a huge heavy glider, you can get away with using a 360lb single strand but a small glider like an undertaker for expample or any glidebait that is sensitive to it's balance, a lighter wire leader is needed. I make mine with 174lb on the heavy side and for smaller stuff 124lb wire. 105lb bends too easy but works too. I make the leaders 8-10" long, no longer. I also use a solid ring and no ball bearing swivel with a 150lb snap. The simpler and lighter you make it, the easier the bait is to work the way you want it to. |
