Still working on this one and I won't have it done for some time but how does it look so far? 11 inches long and I will have three lips for it. A deep, shallow and glider lip. 7/0 hooks with triple split rings. So what do ya think?

Final weight will be around 6oz. I thing. Needed this to make it run right. Good thing is at this weight it is a bullet to throw and you can toss it a mile into the wind! I thought it was going to be a problem at that weight as most lures liek this are 3oz but I really liked throwing it. It goes ass end into the wind too as the lip hold up the front a little. This was all done in my back yard in -10F weather though in the wind. I love testing lures in MN! LOL Not much wobble in the snow though...

When you say three lips do you mean it as the lure will come with 3 different interchangable lips or there will be three different versions of the bait to buy.

James,
I really like the idea of having the 3 different lips. Great idea!! Get 3 lures in 1. It looks to me that it should really dig with the deep lip.

Sounds like it should start warming up for us. My pond is already getting rough looking from the last 3 days of warmer weather we had. It won't be long until the opener.

I wanted to do three lips with one lure but could not get it to work well in the time I had. These will be cemented in. I may buy extra lips though along with a few blanks. Then you could just lightly rubber cement them in and interchange them. The locking interchangeable lip is a great idea it just requires a little more engineering on the mold side. I am surprised nobody has done it. I have seen some old patents on it I think?

Just so you know a guy from australia has done this and I believe he has a patent but I dont know what type. It was orig called a stumpjumper but the name was changed when they were imported into the U.S but I do not know what they are called right now. They were popular around South Bend Indiana and used on the great lakes for trolling salmon and steelhead and I have used them for Musky also. Great idea but not really new still nice addition for musky but you may want to check on Patant restrictions for this style of interchangable lip....Good Luck Doug Bradley

Thanks Doug, I did look in the USPTO and did not see anything recent when I started this one about 9 months ago for the lips. If you have a US-IP number please send it to me. It might be a method and not a use patent too? Really wanted to make a lure with the interchangeable lips. This lure you can do it with but the lips are just set in and the force of the water keeps them in. I did all my testing with non-glued in lips but that was in a pool. Not sure they would stay in if they hit rocks and sand.. As for prices I am not sure. I have been told $18-$20 by some guides but that does not fall into my "vision". I would like to keep it low and around $10. With gas going to $4/gal I am not sure how many guys will be able to afford $20+ baits. And that includes my Grunt. Already seeing a decrease in sales for those and I think it is the prices+economy.

I do not have any anymore but search stumpjumper in the standard .com fashion ( hope this doesnt get pulled, it will help) and you will find the lure. In the US its called the Ausiejumper, Great lure but the lips fit so tightly when its time to remove one you have to hold the lure with one hand and grasp the lip with pliers with the other and pull and twist. If the lure slips you get hooks in your hand and I had a few close calls!!!!! That is the only downfall and it might open you up for liability......Good luck and hope the info helps..............Doug Bradley

Ryan, It has rattle. Basically it is a souped up version of my Super Cisco. Made from high impact ABS with rattles. Still needs a lot of work on the specification though. I have no dive charts for the deep and shallow lips. The glider lip has only been tested a few times in a pool. I have video and it looks real nice. The glider lip was a mistake I must admit but it worked so what the heck I will take credit for making a glider out of my crankbait. The shallow was also a mistake. I was sizing for the diving lip and it seemed to work real well as a 2-3 feet sub surface crankbait. 90% of a company’s successes are mistakes that were realized as an opportunity I try to make a LOT of screw ups! lol
James

PS-On the subject of a believer, this Mag Shad bait I have would never replace a Believer in your box. That bait has to be the toughest bait I have ever used. My buddy and I drug two through the sand on Mil Lacs last year for about 6 hours on the North side and it only took about 1/4 inch of plastic off the lure lips. Still fished great and it is still in my box. I really want to see how far down you can grind a Believer lip before it won't fish. Sounds like a Tootsie Pop commercial!

Just got some prototypes in and took one and pounded a nail into a 2x4 with it! Hardly damaged the lure on the nail side and the hammer side had no visible damage. "Tough as Nails" LOL. Can't wait for these!

I, too, like the idea of the different lips.

I'm not sure about a patent here but one may wish to look at that book on the history of lures... the name escapes me now but it goes way back and I think such things have been done before, as I recall. If memory serves me, while I'm not sure about an interchangeable lip per se, I do believe there was one done whereby one could adjust the setting of a lip to several different settings or such.

Try the following:
